The Restored Weber Skyline Genesis.

On a side note, those handle lights look great. I didn't put those on, saw them for the first time in Arun's pictures.

I had to swim back through some pages to fish out that Skyline:smilekettle:! Yea, I think that Weber handle light has the perfect look for a Skyline grill.

My skyline came with one too and as luck would have it the 1985 Genesis 2 has one also. Both of them in good shape, amazing for a 34 year old grill although I don't know if it was put on when the grill was purchased.

I'm going out on a limb, and only guessing, but I'm going to say it may have been an option back in the day. I've seen those handles on a few girls. But I also don't know if they were added on or came that way somehow.

Is that at the California beaches???

Well, maybe if I was a beach bum I might have seen a few there also. But I have seen them on a handful of grills and a couple still had the original handle light on them. That's why I'm thinking it may have been some kind of option back in the day. Or maybe it was an authorized aftermarket Weber thing you could buy. I really don't know though.

Jason, read your original post carefully. Most notably your spelling of "grills".

Speaking of handle grill lights I started to refurb the grill light from my 1985 genesis and I took it apart unscrewed the base that holds the bulbs in thinking the bulbs would just come out from the bottom....noooo they don't. I played around with both of them and can't get the bulbs out. I don't remember who changed theirs out to LEDs but whoever did knows what to do. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are 4 small screws on the panel on the underside. You need to remove the panel.

I was trying to remember but my tax season overloaded brain wasn’t working. What Bruce says brings back what I remember as well. It is easy with the right screwdriver. The LED lights on Amazon are working great for me so far.

Thanks guys, but I guess I didn't clarify what I needed help with. I already removed the panel the problem is there is a screw on cap that is on the bottom of the socket. Usually you unscrew that and the light bulb will come out, but in this case it doesn't. I have access to the bulb but can't get it out of the socket. The light bulb isn't stuck as I can turn it in the socket and it works, but it won't come out.

Rich,

Sounds a little different from what some of us got. Maybe because yours is an earlier version. Could you post a few pictures so we can see and compare to what we have?

I'll try and get that done tomorrow morning. The schematic that Sam was so kind to provide doesn't look like what I have so you may be right.

You didn't have a problem with the fish sticking to the grates?

I didn't have that the first time, but had it the 2nd and 3rd time.
I recommend cooking fish with skin on and down on the grill. Well-oiled with avocado oil or something else with high smoke point. Get the skin nice and crispy, and just let the heat slowly cook the flesh from the bottom up.

Better yet, cook whole fish. I do whole rainbow trout on the grill for my birthday every year. So good.

Best fish I ever had was at Hartwood in Tulum, MX.
