The King is Dead, Long Live the King

Due to my recent camera tragedy I decided to buy something I have always wanted, a Nikon Pro camera for all the outdoor stuff I do and general photography.
Found my baby, D700 waterproof dustproof and all magnesium body. Full frame FX. I got quite the deal as it has 360 shutter actuations on it, which is nothing as the shutter life is 150,000 minimum. The whole thing is like brand new, it was a $3000.00 camera when sold new in 2011.
Looking forward to posting up some stuff with it among other things.

When I was looking to jump up to FX last year I wanted a D700 but couldn't find one available. I bought my D800E new, and shortly afterwards the D700s were popping up like weeds. :-) Those D700s sure are getting premium prices for used, discontinued equipment. Looking at the market, if I had any reason to part with my `800E I would take such a beating on it.

Very nice....everything always works out for the best. Now....get grilling my friend!

And....purchase a good strap....Just kidding.

Congrats on the 800E Mike, it is a beautiful camera, incredible resolution. Oh, you can still buy a new D700, I believe the current price is around 2200 body only. Talked to a pro here in Flemington, he shoots events, weddings portraits etc. Uses two D700's said you could not buy them from him period. Been shooting Nikon professionally for thirty years. Told me it is the best all around camera Nikon ever made.
I read that on line so many times I knew it would be right for me

Nice camera body Bill! Do you have FX lenses for it? Some of the AF Nikkors from the film era will still work very well with it, along with AIS manual focus Nikkors, if you
have the time to work the old fashioned way. Enjoy!

Nice purchase. I've wanted to move up to full frame from my D300 for a while now. Looking forward to seeing some of your images!!!

I do have two nice lenses from my film days, I did sell my manual focus lenses though. I am going to keep an eye open for some additions though. I started with a Canon AE1 that I carried all over Europe for two years and did a lot here. Sold it and went through the whole progression of Nikons F's, FE's up until my last one the FM3A

Really glad for you, Bill. It's great you were able to find the new camera. Too bad you couldn't repair the "old king" though!

That's a great piece of gear. Congrats! Are you going to have to get new glass?

I recently found Nikonites.com and am enjoying reading up over there, seeing some great work and learning quite a bit.

Excellent Bill! The D700 is a fabulous camera. It has great sharpness, and with less pixels in a full frame has excellent high ISO performance. I hope your lenses were not DX lenses though, if so you will need new lenses to get the full advantage of this new camera. WTG!

I know a bit about Nikon. I've been shooting Nikon cameras since the 70's. I do photography as a business now and although I shoot mostly landscapes and I still shoot film with this (4x5):

I still shoot Nikon cameras for avian photography and street shots, etc. Here's my Nikon bag. It goes from 10 to 520mm :):

And guess what? My go to camera for food is a Nikon 1 V1 :). An excellent camera as well.

Enjoy the D700! It is a GREAT camera.

Best,

Jose

Thanks Jose, I do have FX lenses and I will be looking for additional ones as I go. Love the large format cameras Jose, always wanted to get into the Ansel Adams type of photography but fell in love with the digital world for most of my images. I am in the woods and streams a lot and wanted that full weatherproof camera for a change.
Would love to see some of your large format images, are you developing your own also?
