Steak, Potatoes and Grilled Veggies

Tried a New York Strip Steak, bone in. So tired of paying $18/lb. at Costco for their steaks. I know, my fault, as I always get suckered in to getting the Prime meat. Was at Safeway and saw this steak marked down to $8.00/lb. so I went for it. It was Ranchers Reserve, which I think is a fluffed up name for Select, but what the heck. It was absolutely delicious and I saved myself $10! Did a large baker to go along with it and rounded things out with grilled zucchini, yellow squash and RBP. A few pic's.

All I like on my steak is salt and pepper.

Veggies oiled and seasoned up.

Baker on JJ.

Veggies in the CI Wok.

Steak on HH about 3 minutes a side.

Just about done.

Veggies just about done.

Slice.

Plated.

This was a delicious meal. I think I'm going to go with the cheaper cuts for a while. This steak was juicy and wonderful. Thanks for looking.

That's too much to pay unless it's a special occasion! Yours looks perfectly cooked.

I'd say I don't remember the last time I paid $18/lb for meat but I do - it was for- two dry-aged porterhouses,,,,cooked them super hot with a ton of charcoal piled just below the grate on just the lower section of my wsm. and yes, it was a special occasion :) (not that special, just a treat)

Nice work Cliff. Costco steaks aren't always worth the money. I always look for the cheaper cuts. When seasoned right the taste almost the same or sometimes better!

Good looking plate Cliff! Barb and I always check the dog food section for beef and we found out that the butchers at our local Fry's puts out the marked down meat at 9am. So if we're going shopping we plan on being there at 9am, I have three TTs and two large chuck roasts, one bone in pork roast and various steaks from chuck eyes to T-bones all at half price or less sitting in the freezer. So far all the marked down meat has been excellent.

Cliff, that is a yummy plate of food for sure and and the sides are perfect! Have to get Rich going on some steaks after seeing yours.

Oh Lordy! That is a thing of beauty.
(I'm liking that solid CI grate. Gotta find one of those!).

Cliff. A question if you don't mind.

Are you using two grills for that cook? I see there is a 4-part & a 3-part CI grates. I have the 3-part for my JJ, and a 2-part for my SJG.
I'm guessing the 4-part grate is for a 22.5"-er? Thanks.

That steaks look good! A little overdone for me! But this is just me!

I completely agree, Enrico. I love my steak rare to medium rare. This steak was thicker on one end. I was in a hurry and took slice shot off the thinner side. Oh well, it's all good!

Right Tony. The 22 inch grate has four segments. I love cooking on CI.

Great looking plate of food. Love the cast iron grates. Lately I've been buying select grade chuck eyes to try to save cash.
