Stanbroil Stainless Steel Cooking Grates For Weber Q

Assuming you purchased them through Amazon, why not simply return them for a refund? I've returned Stanbroil products and Stanbroil has never questioned or quibbled about the return, and the money was credited back to my account as soon as I dropped them off and they were scanned into the system. Ez-pz. I am much happier doing that as opposed to keeping a product that isn't what I expected.

Ya, I understand that it'll probably outlive a cast iron. However, the fact that it's magnetic simply means it's probably a 430 stainless steel. I know that my broil king which uses the 430 stainless steel rusts very quickly from normal usage. That being said, I won't lose sleep over this. It is however unfortunate that it won't last forever as I had hoped.
Yes, there were Amazon reviews that said it rusted. But a little maintenance/seasoning will prevent that and at least there is no enamel to flake off in your food.

I am experimenting right now. I am leaving the grill outside, uncovered in bad weather. I did cook on them a couple times. Actually well pleased (though NOT the same as cooking on cast iron so keeping a set of CI). Cleaning them is a little different. You need a good quality brush than has a flat scraper. Again I like Libman brushes. Best out there. No bristle breakage and has a large flat scraper. Honestly for the $$$$ the grates are top notch IMO. But, again I am not all hung up on if they're 304 or 430. I am not paying 304 prices so not bothered by the 430 content. I will report back how they hold up to my torture testing. But so far so good

Thanks for doing this test for us Larry. Looking forward to seeing the results

I recieved my grates and cooked on them the first time on October 1st. Since then, I did a quick scrape with the edge of a spatula after my first cook....some burgers: https://tvwbb.com/threads/stanbroil...g-grates-for-weber-q.80336/page-5#post-926440

Since then, I have cooked burgers a couple more times, chicken breasts and brats and dogs twice, some italian meatballs and probably a couple other things. I don't cover the grill, it sits out in the sun, rain and wind.
So, with virtually no cleaning in over two weeks, there is NO rust. Even the gunk and burned on carbon seems much less that I would expect with similar treatment to CI grates.

I don't think 430 vs 304 SS should be more than a very small consideration in evaluating these grates. The real consideration should be focused on CI vs SS in general. If you like the idea of SS over the regular CI grates, then I am sure you will be more than happy with these.

Looking at your picture, Brue, I think you can see how some people leaving reviews about "rust" are confused by the normal staining from food.

All those great deals that Stanbroil had going on are now gone. I wish I had bought more stuff...particularly more of these SS Q grates.

I could use a set of Q3xx grates and a couple Q1xx sets.

A Stainless Q Grate Alternative

OK, so here is a company in Germany making similar stainless grates for all three Q grills. I can't read the German, but I would bet these ARE 304 stainless. Whether that is worth the extra $ I guess depends on how you see it. I would expect better workmanship, too.

Jon, the Q3xx grates are over $100 US.

Also, says won't ship to Wisconsin.

Well, I didn't say that they were a good deal  . If they are actually 304 and 430 is a deal breaker for someone, I threw this out as an alternative. At least made in Germany and hopefully high quality for that high price. Can't see why they won't ship to Wisconsin. I wonder if that is all of the US?

Myself, I like the reports you all have given on the Stanbroil ones. I would like to have a reason to buy their Q grates with the crosshatch pattern. I still like cast iron best. I admit it is a pain, though.

Yah, I put a set in my cart and went to check out and it said that they didn't ship to Wisconsin. Not sure about the rest of the US. I imagine shipping from Germany would be a bit rough anyway.

Ok, I'll bite...why?

I sent the following email asking whether they are 304 or 430, and asking why they don't ship to Wisconsin. I'll let you know when I hear from them.

Sind diese Edelstahl 304 oder 430? Warum versenden Sie nicht nach Wisconsin, USA?

Yep so far just like Bruce. No rusting despite being left out in the rain wind and now cold. A little carboned up but no rusting. Honestly I am pleased. BTW most German craftsmen I have ever met (actually most European ones) would never use anything less than 300 series to craft something like this. There is a different pride taken in work and material there. Much like Dave Santana here shows in his craftsmanship

Through a little research on Grillrost.com (and with the help of Google Translate), I can verify that Jon would have won his bet had he made one. The company states that the material used is stainless steel with the material number 1.4301, which is AISI 304. I won't pursue the issue of why they won't ship to WI because I don't think Bruce is seriously interested in these.

Thanks for the translation and info, Ed. Well, now we know there is a top drawer alternative choice if you are willing to spend the $.

Ed, do you think they were excluding certain states or is there no shipping to the US at all!

I just now asked...I don't see why not, although it's probably not cheap.

But look at this! Now this warming rack is something I haven't seen before.
