Snowy East Coast Salmon

Living in the DC metro area, snow is a pretty big deal. And a pain in the hind-end. I spent the first 23 years growing up in Northern WI, but much prefer the past 13 winters living in VA. While the ~6" of snow pretty much shut down this entire area, I wanted some fishy from the grill.

With the ceiling I added to the deck last May, I wasn't too worried about ol' man winter.

But when I opened the patio door, I was greeted with this view.

Even my chimney-fire-upper had to get cleaned off.

First time firing up the Blue MT since I picked it up

The wind was a killer trying to get this chimney started

Moved the chimney to the kettle as a wind block

That's better

Now, we're ready

Olive oil, pepper, and Himalayan pink salt on these guys.

Salmon fillet with EVOO and this seasoning - that's it.

Everybody in the pool. Put a couple of sweet taters on earlier with a chunck of hickory (which is engulfed in flames right now)

Love how the charcoal, all banked on the left side, melted the snow

Done

Wifey added brown sugar to her tater, but I like em' as is.

And just because the grill was still hot.... Couple of pork tenderloins smoked/cooked indirect while we had dinner.
Afterwards, moved direct for a quick sear and this will make leftovers for a couple of days.

That was fun, but I'm ready for spring. Weird part - it was mid 50's yesterday...

Nice cooking Chad...I like the first scenery pic better than the rest but the salmon looks right on!! Grilled broccoli too? Nice buddy!

Chad;
You did GOOD!! Me, I'll wait a few days until it gets above freezing, at least.

Salmon on the grill is one of my absolute favorites. Yours looks GREAT!

Keep on smokin',

Feel a little guilty because it was 50 degrees at my house today which is absurd for Montana. No worries, snow on the way tomorrow! I love the salmon. Was it wild caught or farm raised? Somewhere down the road I really want to try sweet potatoes on the grill. Great looking food.

I got that same rub. Haven't used it a lot, but it seems like pretty good stuff. Great looking fish!

It is interesting to see how these bbqs melt the snow around them. I especially liked the pic that someone had posted where their WSM had melted all of the snow except for the bit underneath the heat shield.

Great looking salmon by the way. ;)
