Smokey Joe on the water

Or, maybe instead of infringing on Deep Purple I will call it schmuck on the water?? Anyway, I originally had the idea for doing this as a fun thing in the Sausage Throwdown a couple weeks ago, but we had a string of windy days and a big rain so I never got it done in time. Don't think it would have been a winner there anyhow, was some pretty good competitors. We have an old pontoon anchored out in the swimming hole, and I paddled the little Smokey Joe and a cooler of necessities out to it one evening. Got the coals ready.

Seared a couple of Eyetalian sausages, then rolled them over to cook indirect for a few minutes.

Put them on buns, with basil and tomato from the garden and some soft mozz. I can officially say this is the first time I have ever done food prep on a slide.

Put them back inside, let's see what is happening in there.

Melty and crunchy sammiches.

Made a basket with some Deifenbach's Old Fashioned chips- cooked in lard just the way the Good Lord intended. It was pretty simple, but sure hit the spot!

Everything is great until those sandles... What is up with that? Dood I'm in kalifornia, those won't fly even here :)

Lol! I work outdoors in those a lot during warm weather, they are tough enough to stand up to gravel, concrete, climbing ladders, walking in a corn field or hay field, running if need be, and I can wear them for 12-15 hour days without being uncomfortable and getting blisters. Function over fashion, and I sure as heck am not going to wear flip-flops out here!

Beautiful scenery! Vacation or just a get away? While the 'glass' is beautiful, I might like to rip it up with an RC boat or two.... and don't let Chuck mess with you about the sandals :) I have some too :)

Clay;
I like the whole concept! Great pictures and being an ol' canoe and kayak bum, I can truly appreciate the effort!

Good post!

Keep on smokin',

OT: I just read your post again - you should have entered in the throwdown! I only did once but I will again - it's fun, and yours were good! .....next time :)

That meal looks incredible! Totally took it over the top, throwing them back on to melt that cheese.

Cool view on the water.

Photographic evidence is not required, we’ll take you word on that :)

Looks awesome Clay! Only thing missing is a fishing pole to harvest some Bluegills out of that swimming hole!

Great pics !

On the sandals...falls under the "Livin' Free Below the Knee!" rules.
Not allowed in my world (Journeyman Carp), but it would be nice !
Gonna be a hunnert here tomorrow !
