I have had numerous friends and family rave over "my" bbq sauce. And they're shocked when I tell them what's in it....

Simmer some blues hog cut with sweet baby rays. A little sugar, butter, and beer. It That's it. What does everyone else use in their sauce??

My wife makes some good sauce, she browns up minced onions in butter or oil, adds brown sugar, ketchup, yellow mustard broth and then what ever sauce that is in the fridge that she wants to throw in to in. Has done this for years. And it is delicious.

Making sauce isn't very hard but it's all about personal preference. I always been in love with blues hog but it's just so expensive. So I started cutting it with sweet baby rays. The butter seems to add a little shine to the meat and the honey helps with the sweetness. Honestly I don't know if beer actually enhances the sauce but for some reason everyone in St. Louis likes to encorporate beer into the bbq. I use it to thein the sauce out while it's on the stove. It all works for me and happened by mistake.

I make my own. most times it's from scratch w/tomato sauce as a base and whatever else I feel it needs based on the taste i'm going for. when i'm feeling a bit lazy, I doctor up a generic sauce. when i'm really lazy, I go for a strait bottle sauce.

Thanks Bob.
My wife is suppose to bring me rubs and sauces from Mississippi this Friday. I text her and told her to try and get me done blues hog.

Here is a delicious version of an old VA BBQ sauce inspired by a VA BBQ man named Shack. It has no sugar in it, so sweet sauce fans may want to stay away.

1 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup of your favorite hot sauce
1 Tablespoon (TBS) Paprika
1 TBS Black Pepper
1 TBS Kitchen Salt
2 TBS Yellow Mustard (French)

Mix well, let sit for at least 24 to 48 hours before serving for best results.

A friend of mine brought me a bottle of Marks Feedstore BBQ sauce. It's a mustard based sauce and it's my new favorite. Anyone else ever try it?

I make my own starting with tomato paste. The basic sauce is the "mild". I add habanero powder to make "hot". I add bhut jolokia powder to the "hot" to make "RIP".

Blues hog is made right here in Missouri so it is readily available for us. I know you can buy large quantities.. Even a gallon at a time online for around $39 I've seen on amazon. It's worth it if you like blues hog. I've heard of some BBQ teams using blues hog with a little honey and winning competitions with it.

I usually take any off the shelf Kansas City style sauce (usually Bulls Eye or KC Masterpiece) cut it with a little apple cider vinegar and add Tabasco sauce to taste.

100% from scratch, minus a bit of prepared mustard and ketchup...

And even then, I'm looking to sub those out with proper ingredients.

Half the fun for me is the creation, and I really like being able to say EVERY part of my BBQ is homemade!

B,

My bbq life changed when I started using this sauce from Food Network Magazine. It rocks and people rave. Give it a look.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but that link looks a little suspicious.

On the other hand, between my wary nature and my anti virus, I have been virus free for 2 years.
