Same Old Vortex Wings New Fuel

I have posted a few cooks with the same Vortex wings, this time I used lump.

I used a small amount of KBB for the base and Cowboy lump for the rest.

Ready to go.

15 minutes in.

Flipped at 30 minutes.

Done, ready to spin.

Plated and ready to go.

I'm glad I tried this with lump, they definitely cooked faster. Next time I will pull the wings off quicker. This is only my third time using lump, I like the way it cooks and understand that the size of the pieces are inconsistent. I'm going to continue using KBB as a base and piling the lump on top to get the best results. Thanks for looking.

Great write-up, Pat! The wings look great as well!

You are using the exact same method that I use for the 18.5" WSM. I place a single layer of briquettes (Royal Oak) on the bottom to keep my small pieces of lump (Royal Oak, too) from falling through the grate.

Is it really necessary to light the base? Looks like the lump would ignite it quickly enough.

Great looking wings! I'll probably get flamed from some saying this, but I'm not the biggest fan of lump. There I said it. haha. I do love the flavor it imparts, but goes too quick.

Nice looking wings Pat. Only used lump a couple of times. Liked the smell but it didn't burn nearly as long as the KBB.

Pat your killing it lately, nice wings, hope that plate was just for you.:george: I'm also a fan of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce.

Killer Wings Pat. That Sweet Baby Ray's is good stuff, huh?

Have you guys tried this one yet, it's one of my favorites.
