Restored 93 Genesis 2200

For your Weber badges, make sure you paint them like Dave in KC....with the red kettle!

This is one of his pictures from another thread

I also cleaned up the silver lid, this one took more work the my dads red top lid - also there is a funny wavy pattern to the enamel on the inside of the grill, not sure if that happened when the enamel was applied or if this grill had some sort of grease fire.

All of the wood with the exception of one warped board on one of the lower panels looks to be re-usable I picked Golden Oak for the light slats and Red Chestnut for the dark - I'm going to see how it looks and if I don't like it I'll pick one of the other. I'll post pics to see what you guys think.

Lastly I just want to thank everyone again for sharing the info on how to do these restorations - as a mechanic I have no doubt that I could handle this type of project but the information and detail shared from this collected community really helps whenever I have doubts or questions.

I am guessing grease fire, but it is worth it to have an unusual lid like this one :coolkettle: .

A lot of the grills I have rehabbed had some of that on the inside of the lid. I have always assumed that if it was like that at the factory, Weber would reject it. I am thinking a grease fire or something similar is the cause as well.

It is very discouraging to have that under the carbon after you scrape it all away and the lid is otherwise in pristine condition.

Why use links when Chris went through all the trouble of setting up and entirely new site that we don't have to do this. Just attach the files and you're done. Slam bam thank you mam

I'm kicking around the idea of redoing both grills now but if I did my dad's grill would need a new porcelain coated bottom tray and it doesn't seem like they are available anymore. Any sources for replacement or do I have to try to find something used?

Because when I take a photo with my phone it's automatically uploaded to Google photos - for me to drag and drop it I would have to download the photo to my computer, unzip the file and re-upload it. Using the web address of the photo is much easier if it works properly.

The kettles are hand painted I'm assuming?
Yes, I haven't painted one, but Dave in KC does all the time. I think he cleans and sands them down really well. Then paints with high heat black paint. Dry. Then sands the paint off all the raised letters and kettle, then hand paints the kettle red, or at least his wife does that for him

I went out and bought both the Rustoleum High Heat and the High Heat Ultra to see what the difference was.

First I painted the box with Rustoleum High heat gray primer then I tried out both cans the black on the left is the standard High Heat and on the right is the High Heat Ultra - looking at the old Weber catalogs it appears to me that the "correct" more original style would be the standard High Heat - although it seems like most of you prefer the more gloss look of the Ultra.
Does it seem like one or the other cleans up easier? Just trying to get some feedback from the masses.

My Samsung phones came with a huge amount of Microsoft One Drive Space. I use it all the time as I REALLY HATE the way Google photos works. I don't like that it's not transparent and changes the photos into another format so they're hard to use. So my phones are set to upload to One Drive and it works transparently. Google Photos "links" don't work for everyone. Chris has done a wonderful job of making it so much nicer not to have to deal with PIA links.

I think it's personal preference. The ones I've done get both. I use the flat on the cook box and lid sides, and the gloss on the frame. I like the color distinction that way.

So hand painting wasn't so bad - it's not quite as smooth as I'd like but it'll work.

Still working on the wood, I've got half of it sanded and ready to stain another 9 boards that have just been cleaned and I still have to do the wood for the fold up shelves - man there's a lot of wood on a 2200. I'm actually going to use some of the wood off of my dad's Genny 3 on the bottom shelf, half will be from his half will be from the 2200. I'm hoping I can get all the wood ready to stain by Sunday night.

Staining and clear coating the wood is taking some time - I ended up doing 1 coat of stain then 2 coats of brush on Spar urethane, I didn't like how it was coming out, too many brush strokes - so I got some spray Spar urethane and it's really starting to look good - sorry no pics of the wood yet.

I did go the extra mile on the manifold, I know no one will ever see it but sticking with my red and black theme, it works:

I also picked up a side burner from fellow member John Sandak that I will be completely going through - not that it needs it really:

Any thoughts on where I can get a replacement hose for the side burner? Everything I'm finding is too long - you would think finding an 18" LP hose with 1/4" NPT fittings on both sides would be fairly easy but it hasn't been. The only reason I want to replace it is because of the hose clamp, I'd prefer a crimped fitting.
