Ordered new phone

After doing some research I am thinking of getting a S21 Ultra and selling my Olympus OMD E-M1 setup. I rarely carry it around anymore and would make travel much easier without carrying a SLR and 3 lenses. Has anyone else gone this route? Do you you shoot RAW and do off line editing? If so do you regret it or not? The sad part is that I am not even sure all my camera gear is worth the cost of the phone.

I make lots of use of the camera (which is also why I am getting a flagship phone). I make use of other features as well but the excellent cameras are worth it to me. I have not carried a camera for years now because of this. I have a large photo blown up to 16x20 on a canvas wrap of my grandson. I love the photo and the composition seems to actually tell a story. I took it with my Note 9. It's not lacking for quality.

Barb and I had to jump into the Smart phone arena because our flip phones were G3. We both got Samsung Galaxy A02s nice phone, but way more than I need or want. After working as a Central office supervisor for AT&T 20 some years to me a phone is a phone. Agree with Larry the camera is great but the rest of what it does beside the phone I don't use.

That is a whole other discussion. I have always used SLRs, first film then digital. Lots of lenses and gear to lug around. Gradually moved to a superzoom camera because of size. Than as phone cameras got good, I rarely ever pick up a real camera. I have gotten really lazy and have tons of pics on the camera that I never downloaded. It is a slippery slope. No creativity, no depth of field, but sure is fast and easy.

Sounds like me. I started off when I was 13 with a Minolta SRT101. Became photo editor of my college paper. Had a Panasonic superzoom / bridge, now the micro 4/3. The thing missing from phone cameras was telephoto until now. I only shoot RAW with my Olympus and tweak in ON1 before posting. Now almost all my pics are of grills and food;-)

My LG Stylos 5 still works just fine, although the battery life isn't what it used to be. I don't need to replace it right now so will wait a while longer before doing so. My wife's Apple phone is even more ancient than my LG phone so that will be the one that gets replaced first.

Yeah, like I indicated at first. Given what the techs tell me, it may be some type of slight incompatibility causing my issues every time they push a security patch through. IDK, but I'm getting tired of being on a first name basis with tech support :D Then there is also once things get to EOL (end of life) they don't even push any security updates. Then your device, your home network, personal info and more can be at risk. Mine is at just about 5 years now so I just don't see any reason to push it. At home it's on my WLAN all the time, it has lots of personal info as well. Not just photos and calendar. Email, shopping info, security info and so on. After going through ID theft once I do everything I can (within reason) to avoid it

Who would have thought that we would be plopping down a thousand bucks for a phone? Even worse, we are expected to replace them every couple years. Of course, it is all slight of hand as they hide it in your plan and give you 0% financing.

Maybe other providers should catch on. Cable company gives you a "free" TV with contract. Kingsford give you a "free" BBQ with auto-ship plan. Omaha Steaks give "free" freezer with subscription. The possibilities are endless.

I've never paid more than $300 for a decent phone which meets my elementary business needs. Some day when I retire, I'll manage with a much cheaper phone.

Note: my idea of social media is this forum. I have no FB, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram accounts, etc. Come to think of it, I have no cable or satellite TV. Relative to many other people I know, I am a free man!

Congrats on your S22, or most importantly congrats on not buying an apple. I switched to the dark side (apple) when my Palm Pre died, that was back when it was an i4, I currently have the XS and I'm so over apple. When it dies, I too will probably go with a Samsung Galaxy something, maybe even copy you and get the S22

I thought about getting one of those Pixel 6 Pro's that were T-Mobile returns and sold from a refurb company on FleaBay but Their price was actually higher than what I ended up ordering the new S22ultra for plus twice the memory. The nice thing is Samsung is promising full support for 5 years. So as long as I don't wreck it I should be good to go.

I carried a company phone for years it was a Apple. It had its good and bad points, buy my own phone was a simple S something 2 or 3. Which lasted till it would not up date. Then I got a S10 but as I said it could not swim, so I upgraded only because covid was hitting hard and no phones available, so I got a trade in S21, for less than half price. It has better camera but the rest is not that great. It is not any fast than my 10. This one should last 5 or so years. The most I enjoy my phone is when I leave it at home.

I currently have a Google Pixel 3a. I am shocked at how good the camera is. My last Samsung phone was a Galaxy S3 if that tells you anything. The Galaxy S3 was a great phone for what it was. Samsung seems to be the one with Android phones.

I had a 5 year old Galaxy note 10. We switched to T-Mobile and they offered a Galaxy Z Flip3 5g for a trade in on my old one.
I like the way it folds and fits right in my front pocket.

Would love to know how long the screen lasts. Keep us updated
