Now I like the Competition charcoal better

I had been waiting all this time to get KBB bags on sale at Lowe's (40lbs for $10!), and so in the meantime I had been using Costco's Kingsford Competition briquets. Today, I made spatchcock chicken using a fresh bag of KBB, and with one quick whiff of the smoke, I can say that I was being spoiled by the Competition bags! They don't have that chemical smell that the KBB has. I'm just talking about smelling it when it lights up in the chimney starter, not necessarily when you taste your food.

There I said it. I think the Kingsford Competition charcoal is far superior to the regular blue bags, and are worth the extra cost!

I also like them! It seems to me that they burn quicker and do not last as long in my WSM..but that could be due to many other reasons.

And for me, I don't think there's much of a difference between the Competition and regular KBB and not worth the extra $$$
They produce a *little* less ash than KBB, but Stubbs or lump is still superior (IMO)

I buy Kingsford Original on sale and I am "good to go"... Right now, I have 14 bags in the garage so I should be in good shape for a bit.

Keep on smokin',

I've been happy with the blue bag kingsford when it's on sale, tried RO and Stubbs really can't tell that much difference.

I have been digging the comp myself..we have been getting it at Costco on sale..the blue bag stuff for me is not on sale and more expensive than the comp right now!

I like the hotter burn I get with the comp stuff!

Don't get me wrong; I bought 200lbs of the KBB at Lowe's this week, and am happy to get my charcoal at $.25/lb. on these ridiculous sales. But next time Costco has Kingsford Competition on sale, I'm stocking up again!
