New Dog Pics - Post Pics Of Your Best Friend!

Our blue heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) turned 2 on 4/1/24.
He is turning out to be a really good companion and guardian for us.
We have no fences to keep him in and he never leaves.
I just love that about him.

His main job is to be our companion.
We live beyond rural, it’s rather remote.
With the bears and large cats that share our area we need a guardian and he does this well.
Very friendly, loves people, never bit anyone but is very protective of my wife and his little brother the chihuahua.

I was actually thinking Aussie.
Are those born with more white then color out like blue merle heelers?
Exactly. Our Aussie is a mini, Blue Merle. Hi dad is a Blue Merle, his mom is a Brown Tri, both mini, photos attached. I know several dogs from this pairing, they’re all awesome

I’m very familiar with the cattle dogs and strong consideration was made. Ultimately we decided on a mini Aussie, like your dog, our pup’s job will he for his eyes & ears as we too are about to go off the grid

That is a great choice for a pup Chuck.
You did well choosing this one 👍.

I’m very familiar with Aussie breeds.
We’ve had 1 Shepard, 2 Border Collies and 2 Heelers.

Our heelers are smart as all get out but not for everyone.
Getting them to break bad habits is not very easy to say the least and is one reason I don’t think I’d waste my time getting a rescue (second hand) one.
Your just not going to teach them to stop eating chickens, being mean to cats or running off after they get a certain age.
We like to get our Aussies as soon as they are on kibble so they can imprint firmly on us.
Sometimes it is annoying having a shadow following you around but I’d rather have it this way than have one that likes to run off, never comes when called or be generally too independent.
