Makin' Bacon on Christmas

R.I.P. 3/31/2022
We had a baker's dozen here for Christmas Eve dinner and I grill smoked an 11 lb. ham, but didn't bother taking photos.
Just me, Jo, and the pooch here on Christmas day.

A 3 lb. slab of belly had been in the fridge curing for 9 days and it needed smoking.
Snake setup with small hickory chunks.

I know some folks don't like the Thermoset table, I do, but never liked the gray color.
So I used Krylon satin black spray paint on it a couple months ago, then applied Armour All.
It's holding up rather well. I try to avoid scratches, but I've always done that.

Bacon smoked to my liking.
Checked internal when I pulled it and it was 130° F.

Lunch today was a BL, didn't have a T for it.
Couple of small trim pieces too for a snack.

Monsoon like rain is hitting here, 3" since yesterday, 3 more inches predicted through tomorrow.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas!

I leave you with a video of goldfinch (in their winter garb) feasting on my Christmas gift to the birds, shelled sunflower seeds.

Great looking bacon Bob. I've been using apple for smoke, my next batch will be hickory which I haven't tried yet.
We have the exact same performer as you do with the blue. I really like the way that satin black Thermoset looks on yours as I don't care for the gray much either. How did you prep the top? Rust-oleum now makes a primer and some paints that also bond to plastic. I was thinking two coats of the plastic primer then another two coats of the paint. I know Thermoset isn't actually plastic but if the primer will bond to plastic I'd guess it would work well on the Thermoset.

Thanks Rich!
Rust-oleum might be a better choice, and your plan sounds solid.
All I did was give it a good cleaning first.
Figured worse case scenario I could remove all the paint if it started coming off.
The Armor-All really beads up the water.

Bob, awesome looking bacon. Like Rich said I like the satin black look on the performer. That will be his next project when its a little warmer!;)

If I may have your BLT today, I'll gladly pay you on Tuesday...

Excellently done Bob. Like the birds video. Glad to see I'm not the only here taking care of our feathered friends. I get Sparrows, Blue Jays, Dove and Quail. I also get Robins, I guess they come because they see all the birds, it's not like I can put anything out for them, and they are famous for draining the bird bath of all the water

Of course the bacon looks beautiful Bob. And your sandwich.... you bring such color, depth and clarity to anything you photograph. Boy, six inches of rain in two days. I'm almost as envious over that as I am of that sandwich! We've got a little over 9 inches, season to date, with not much in the forecast. I think the goldfinches are very happy with Santa!

Awesome looking Bacon Boss Bob! Both raw AND smoked!
I also like the new look of your tabletop, mine looks like caca.

what type of seed you have in that Cardinal Feeder? dunt look like sunflower seeds..

Like your video of your birds. We only have crows & can see the turkeys are out again. BL looks guud. Happy New Year!
