Lidyl charcoal

FWIW, 15# bag of charcoal briquets are back at $5.69, If I remembered right.
It's decent stuff, don't know the manufacturer other then made in USA. If you have a Lidyl grocery near you check it out.

Where are you Geo? I have not heard of that store around here. Virtually no “store branded” charcoal really.
There is some ”Cowboy” at Costco, Royal Oak a few places but, I’m not seeing anything in the “Premium“ coal arena nearby. There was some place that claimed to have some of the coconut shell stuff but, I can’t find them again. May have shut down during the dark days of Covid. I should dig into that again.

Long Island, they started moving out here a few years ago, Aldi is here too, both German grocery chains, I think mostly on the east coast region.

Interesting, I have my doubts that it will make it to the hinterlands of SW Michigan but, you never know Trader Joe’s showed up about two years ago. Aldi around five+

I’m guessing this is the place? Never heard of it before and it turns out there’s one about 15 minutes from my house! I’ll have to check it out. Two weeks ago I discovered Wild Fork, now this. All thanks to this forum!

That's the place, guess I can't spell German names,,,

If you try the briquets let us know what you think, I thought it was good for the price.

LIDL is an awesome store. Lots of food options for great prices and then there’s the added “life” stuff they sell that changes weekly.

I’ll check out the charcoal. There are 3 near me.

Picked up a couple bags today. $5.49 a bag. Looks identical to the small Ridge briquettes which IIRC are made by Royal Oak. I didn’t care that much for Ridge. I’ll try it tonight for some ribs.
As for the store itself, I wasn’t impressed. I don’t see myself returning anytime soon.

Finally got a couple of bags, and a few quick photos....

KBB on the left, LIDL on the right:

Smokes, burns, and looks just as good as KBB - though none of the familiar initial KBB smell I like so much:

Not sure how long the briquettes last nor how they work with different grilling “methods,” but the temp was fine for me grilling simple burgers:

For $6 all in per bag for 15 lbs of charcoal, I’m going back to grab a few mor bags.

We have both Lidl and Aldi here. They are both popular due to their cheap(er) prices.
Lidl is the only place I know of where you can pick up a lawnmower next to the tins of anchovies.

Did a ribeye tonight using Cowboy briquettes. This was after about the same amount of time as lighting the Lidl.

Was just at LIDL yesterday morning. Saw the charcoal but instead, I went for the whole milk at $1.69 per gallon. Best deal on store bought milk, anywhere.
