Kalbi beef ribs.

Around here there are several Hawaiian restaurants that serves various forms of island food. One of the dishes I have always liked is kalbi beef ribs.

I used flanken cut ribs for this dish. For the marinade I grated a pear, onion, and some ginger in a bowl with equal parts soy sauce, water, and brown sugar. I also added garlic, green onion, sesame oil and sherry.

To go with the ribs I quick pickled some cucumber, carrots, and jalapenos in rice wine vinegar, sugar and salt.

I fired up the grill with some cheap generic charcoal I bought last summer for a good price.

Ribs only took a couple minutes per side.

I served up the ribs with some steamed rice, pickled vegetables and some lettuce to roll everything up with. Here is the plate I made for my wife, I removed the bones for her plate.

I am going to have to put this in my regular rotation of meals. Thanks for looking.

Jason, the ribs look great as does your plated pic. BTW- like the Currier & Ives plate, my wife has had them for yrs.
