Italy, a Love Story

So I told you fellows i was leaving for Italy for a special event and now sadly it is over, but I have something to share with my friends here.
Not that I need any prodding to return again to Italy but this was a very special time, my God Daughter who I am very close with has been seeing a really great guy for about two years and he decided as is the norm for him to pop the question to her in a big and memorable way. They are very well traveled and have great friends all over the world.
Well for the past few months a secret has been well kept, he was taking her for a short trip to Tuscany in which she was not really keen about going do to work commitments but unbeknownst to her her God Father, her Mother and Father her Aunt and 14 of their best friends from around the world were meeting there secretly at a restaurant in Tuscany where he was going to take her after proposing.
It all worked out superb and was one of the most memorable times of my life, and she did say yes by the way.
We all rented a 1000 year old Villa in Greve en Chianti named Villa Caprola for five days and split the bill. It was fabulous. We all met at this resturant on the top of a Tuscan Mountain for the grand surprise.

Now for something cool that was not planned but turned out fantastic for me and the gang, I was asked by the soon to be Groom to do a cook at the Villa, he was thinking charcoal grill steaks in which he was going to do some sides.

I was thinking something else all together after making my Villa discovery so we went shopping

Picked up real Bistecca Fiorentina from the Chianina Steer from one of the most famous butcher shops in Tuscany

My meager Italian was rusty but I made a friend and he hooked me up

In the Villa I found they had a working and beautiful hundreds of years old Tuscan wood burning kitchen. I put it to good use with Olive wood, also went walking the grounds for the edible landscape

Awesome cook and time for you and the family Bill!! Congrats to the the family too. I have been to Greve and to Falorni twice; fantastic little Tuscan village. We're headed back to Tuscany in a few weeks - please share with me the name of the restaurant there that you enjoyed and I'll try to work it in. The Bistecca looks fantastic; the meat is delicious but you already know that. Villa Caprola looks beautiful; what a fantastic time.
