Is this Alfresco 30" Grill worth it for a flip?

I have an opportunity to get this grill for $60. It is NG and they sell the conversion kit to propane for $100. It will also need briquet holder and briquets. All in about $500 for an almost $6000 grill. I can get it to look like new as it is all 304 stainless and made in USA. I think a reasonable target when done is about $900 as I almost never see used grills sell for higher no matter the original cost. All thoughts welcome. It is about 1:15 minutes each way to get.

Link to the same model but new and updated. https://www.bbqguys.com/i/2911830/a...propane-gas-grill-with-rotisserie-alxe-30c-lp

I've heard of them, but never seen one in the wild. But, sure looks like a helluva steal for the $$$$. I'd jump on it

That was my thought. Until I looked them up I had not heard of them....Probably for lack of rich people in my social circle who can drop $6K on a grill;-)
I get a few high end grills every year. I either wholesale them to one of the high end flippers near me or scrap them. They need more marketing than I willing to do

A couple things I learned. The cooking grid dimensions front to back are all the same across brands. Widths are different, but can be cut down easily. Probably they have some outdoor kitchen standards they adhere to.

Easy to convert fuels. Most support a conversion kit.

Brand recognition is a challenge.

Models don’t change much year to year. I suspect people could insert a used high end grill into their setup without guests knowing whether it’s new or 10 years old

What do you get for scrapping them? I think I am the only flipper of any kind by me;-) Things are taking a long time to sell recently

It’s about 1 or 2 hours to dismantle a 304 SS 250lb grill

About $100.00

$80.00 in Stainless
$20.00 in brass

Bonus if available:
Propane regulator hose assembly
Useable side burners
Useable cooking grids

I am happy to say that out of the hundreds of grills I have picked up only 1 or 2 did not make it back out to be useful again....and make a small profit;-)

If I get one for free I don't look at it too close until I get it home, although I've paid for ones I knew had problems. All you can do is salvage the useful parts and move on. I only pick up Weber grills though. I would grab the one you're talking about though and take a chance on it for sure.

Me too. That is too fine a piece to not at the very least turn it into a personal grill

I got my heart and my wallet. I have a soft spot for the Webers. Other brands not so much.

My scourge is MHP grills. They are built like tanks out of heavy cast aluminum and 304SS. Parts are available and they can be fixed.

I can’t give away an MHP for free. No takers at any price so I end up scrapping them.

Those are quite high-end. I would definitely consider it. This one appears to be a bit old but from my experience with Weber's and others that can be a good thing.

There's one near me that looks much worse for $380. From the same era

And a nice new one in Seattle for a $14,000

I had decided against it and he offered it to me for free....so I had to get it. Was not even that heavy after stripping it all the way down. It was a little tough to dislodge it from the dirt it was in. Also had a full compliment of ants that made it home. I have a feeling it may even be propane as there is a mark on the label and a hole in the bottom for the tank. Of course I put a regulator on it and fired it up to see what happened.

Wow Joe I'm impressed! What a freaking deal! I'll be curious to watch your progress as I have considered similar grills many times.
Thanks - The basics of all gas grills are the same so there's that. So far it could use new burners as there is a tiny hole in the bottom of each one, missing briquet diffusers and holders, and the igniters and system are kind of toast. I found an aftermarket set of burners, briquets, and holders for $200. The ignition system may be either pricey or imaginatively rescued;-). The electrodes look OK but the little metal plates that hold them are totally gone. It still had the corroded battery in the igniter and took me 10 minutes to get it out as well as disassembling the front of the grill. It is soaking in a vinegar bath and will see if it will work again or not. I was considering high heat epoxy and the tiny holes in the burners before finding the aftermarket set as the OEMs were about $300 each!

So I got the new burners and charcoal trays. The burners fit great but the charcoal trays need about an 1/8th of an inch grinded off to fit;-( The right burner seems a little yellow even with the air vent opened all the way. The rear burner flames up instead of glowing even after blowing it out.
