I'll be slinging hot dogs at Ace Hardware Customer Appreciation Day

Mark, it was great to meet you and your wife Mary. Thanks for making the effort to drive up from Petaluma for the visit.

We served a whole bunch of Kirkland all-beef hot dogs cooked on a Traeger griddle, and samples of Evergood pineapple sausages grilled on a Napoleon gasser with sauces from Blues Hog, Kinder, and Kosmos Q. Add bags of chips, samples of pies baked on a Traeger pellet grill, and drinks and we had a good Customer Appreciation Day.

And in case you haven’t figured out how I got roped into this, my brother is general manager and a partner in store ownership.

At his wage, he’ll be there for the next 10 events.
My payment, besides have a good time hobnobbing with customers, was a frozen strawberry rhubarb pie for my wife.

Are you guys aware of hardware store frozen pies? My brother's store sells a ton of them, a real impulse purchase at checkout. “It’s usually one of our top 100 items every day," he says. "It’s a very lucrative, profitable item.”

They're quite good and are sold at many Ace Hardware stores in Sonoma County. The supplier provides the graphics-wrapped chest freezer for free (with clear lid so you can see the pies inside) and keeps it stocked with pies. The hardware store just sells them...actually, they kind of sell themselves.

We gave away samples at the Customer Appreciation Day event, and lots of folks just came for the pie!
