Is that unused since restoration?
Is that unused since restoration?
I had my chance. I'm in the middle of remodeling my walk in closet so going to pick up a grill wasn't too high on my list at the moment. I think those 5000's are cool, but never really wanted one that badly as I much prefer a Genesis 1000. I know that Paul will give it a proper home so that's good.I hoped he or Steve may try to make a move on it! This warms my heart!
That's what I was referring to as well with my comment above. For clarity, I was talking about the $150 for the gold which I’ve scored a handful off of them free from curb. The glass cabinet grill, I would shell out $100 for.
Thanks Josh, I guess I will see soon enough what condition the paint is but it looks like something that looks great fresh out the box but I wonder how durable the look is longer term. I do think it works well with the grey hood though. It's a very light gray almost white stain or possibly paint on the regular wood slats. Most likely Maple wood.
Here is a close up of one of mine in line for restoration.

You're welcome Paul, I'm going to go the opposite direction with my gray lid and use dark Brazilian Walnut for contrast with the lid. Thanks Josh, I guess I will see soon enough what condition the paint is but it looks like something that looks great fresh out the box but I wonder how durable the look is longer term. Paul, that finish is going to be pretty close to a gray deck stain and I'm sure it will need to be redone, especially the handle if it's even salvageable. Thanks Josh, I guess I will see soon enough what condition the paint is but it looks like something that looks great fresh out the box but I wonder how durable the look is longer term. Hi Jon, wow that looks like a solid start, is that the original wood?Paul,
Very glad you are rescuing this one. I know you will make it look like new again.
As usual, work and family issues have gone against me, but here is one teaser picture of the gas kettle cart grill in progress. When I finally get closer to completion (Spring?), I will start a full thread.

I don't know, I thought he was pretty above board when I talked to him. Thanks Steve, Luckily i know some shady dude that can supply new handles

Thanks Jon, yep this one attracted a lot of attention which was great to see. Makes the effort put it to restore it worth whileThat’s the one that @Mark AU said got the most attention at his recent event at a Weber company store in Australia. Of course, his was meticulously and beautifully restored.
I hope someone saves this one.
I would definitely say a collectors item. It was pretty cool, none of the Weber representatives had seen one in the flesh and a couple had no idea it came with glass doors from factory
Pretty rare grill here in the States as well. I've never seen one in the flesh myself.I would definitely say a collectors item. It was pretty cool, none of the Weber representatives had seen one in the flesh and a couple had no idea it came with glass doors from factory
