Another couple tips on this while I'm thinking about it. Try to get the excess rust out of the cross member where the tubing connector was, use a brass wire toothbrush or a small wire brush in your drill. Insert a bolt into the connector and hammer it into the cross member until it is straight and only as deep as it needs to go to be seated properly. Do all of this before painting or your new paint job will get messed up.
 
My favorite part is thinking back to what it looked like before. I still have to get the valves ironed out. But just getting the frame back together with the cookbox mounted is pretty satisfying.
That's why I always try and take before pics, so I can go back and compare. Yes, getting the freshly painted frame together along with the cook box is a highly satisfying step. What's wrong with the valves?
