I will just leave this here

I sold the one in the photo several years ago with the cart. But, I have another one sitting in my garage waiting for attention.
Very cool! I'm hoping to find one near me for sale. I just missed out on one.

Id trade my Performer for a Char-Q in the same condition. It would suit me better.

Josh, you are gonna have to find a New in Box CharQ for it to be in the same condition as your Performer.

The biggest problem with the CharQ these days is the charcoal basket as I don't know of a source for them any longer.

I think something like this could easily be made or modified out of existing parts Bruce. Do you see any foreseeable issues with that plan?

Nope, if you have the tools and skills, creating a new tray out of stainless would be pure awesome and I think possible. I would think a fabrication shop could make one pretty easily as well and not at too great of an expense. But even a garage mechanic could fab up something, I would think.
@Jon Tofte is a much better source for info on the CharQ. I think he mentioned some kind of repurposed part that worked well.

Do you know of any Char-Q grates available new or used? I know the gas version will work but I'm curious about the original grates?

I have been talking to Jon and utilizing his help also. I appreciate the knowledge and experience shared by everyone and hope I can help others also.

My buddy is scheduled to pick up that beautiful Char-Q but it has gas style grates and he is as picky as I am and is considering walking away.

I told him to just get it and I will find the grates

Those high end SS grates that aren't available anymore would be great I would think.

Josh, A couple things. That charcoal grate like the one you pictured above would be easy with a welder and some 4mm stainless rod. The only modification to it that I would consider is to extend the rods out past the supports to match the curvature of the grill cook box. That could easily be done in a garage by anyone with a welder.

I know on the early Q140 electric grills had stainless solid rod grates. I think Weber switched to CI due to cost. But I have had a couple of those grates. I don't know if I have ever seen ones on a Q2xx series grill, but if they did make them and a guy could get a hold of a set of them, that would be awesome.

Here is a photo of set of Q140 SS rod grates. I think they are 5 or 6mm rods. If a guy could make a set of these for the Q2xx (charQ), that would be awesome. I am sure RCPlanebuyer could do it, but not sure it would be cost effective.

Thank you Bruce I appreciate it!

No problem. Keep us posted on what you come up with. I think the cooking grates in my CharQ are good, but I don't know about the charcoal basket. I may try something like the one you pictured above.

I personally don’t think using a good set of gas Q200/2000 grates would be that much different than grilling on the original CharQ grate. I would rather have that, in fact, than the stainless grates that have the same filled-in areas to protect the burner on the gas version.

That CharQ is really nice and priced fairly. I would think hard before walking away.

Other than finding another used CharQ that has intact, lightly used grates, I would say you have virtually no chance of getting a set of OEM CharQ grates. Too much time has passed, and the CharQ was a slow-selling market flop.
