I will just leave this here

I don't need it but... I have been considering getting a vintage metal typewriter desk for a Q1200. Several available often from $15-$40. Those rolling carts Q grills come with are probably great for portability/travel but kind of wobbly. Also I like old vintage stuff in general over new stuff. Lots of cool different styles with locking caster or like this one with a mechanism to prop the wheels up.

I have as well. Back when stuff was made here and built like a tank. But, I don't think it will stand up to outdoor use

Any of you Q users, do you have any recommendations for SS grate replacements? I want something that’s extremely low maintenance for my 23 year old daughter. I’m finally going to clean up a Q for her in the coming weeks.

For the Q I think you'd be better off with cast iron grates. The design of the cast iron grates is made to work best with the Q grills considering there's no type of flame tamer. The cast iron grates are solid with no holes or slots directly above where the burner is and there's also a drip lip on the bottom side to keep the grease from dripping directly onto the burner.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. First picture right side up you can see the grates are solid directly above where the burner sits so that the flame doesn't hit your food. It hits the grates and the heat transfers from the grates to the food.

Second two pictures are of the grates flipped over so you can see the bottom. You can see that not only is it solid and work as a flame tamer but also has a drip edge to keep the grease from dripping directly on your burners. This will help with eliminating flare-ups and protecting your burner to make it last longer.

I was dead set on finding a SS solution when I first started messing with these Q grills. It just doesn't make sense in this application.
