I will just leave this here

Yup, that is the one I was thinking of as Orange. That pic does look more brown. Someday I would love to acquire one of those. Was that color usually on the fat slat grills?

I guess it is hard to say. Back in the early to mid-eighties, brown -especially in that kind of orange tone brown - was a popular color. Just based on the old grills I have seen and/or picked up, though, I would say red and black were more popular.

Anyone else have an opinion?

There is one for sale in Arizona with that color lid and I think it has black durawood

The chocolate brown, like a lot of colors, changes according to how the light hits it. I picked this one up in 2020:

It's likely a late '86 or '87, guessing from the casting date on the cookbox.

This is a picture of Mark Siebel's beautifully restored '86:

And this is a picture of the late Rich Dahl's restored chocolate brown lid.

These are all chocolate brown when viewed in direct sunlight, although there is likely some color variation from the factory. The camera sees things differently than the human eye so photos may take on an orangish color.

Do you still have it?

That ad has been up for almost two years now. I sent a message to the owner way back then and never received a reply. It was the right grill, right price, right distance to drive and.... nothing.
Really? That is a bummer! My FB MP seems to stretch pretty far, and to my recollection I haven't seen it. Shame, looks like a very promising candidate for a restoration.
