I will just leave this here

So tonight we had the family Christmas for my mom’s side of our family. Took my “work grill” to my uncles to sear a tenderloin that my brother smoked earlier on his WSM. Couldn’t bring myself to use the porcelain coated grates on such a fine cut of meat. While I was out at the grill with my brother the North Star was peeking thru the trees and I knew my mom was watching proudly.

Merry Christmas, gentlemen 🍻

10.5# spiral ham on the kettle yesterday --- I was going back and forth whether to cook it in the oven or kettle..... since it was nice and dry out - kettle it was! ~2.5 hours with apple smoke ~300-325 --- glazed and hit with the weed torch to set it..... 85000 Btus of heat made the glaze bubble REALLY FAST!!!! I wish I would have started earlier so I could see what the glaze was doing instead of doing it in the dark, but it still turned out killer --- the outside crust is ham candy!

Edit to add --- I've never had a glaze turn out that crunchy and tasty! Its the only way I'll do a ham from now on.

Some X000 grills require them as a top spacer otherwise the igniter sits too low and won’t cycle under the push button. No clicky = no lightly.

It’s embarrassing when a client shows up to purchase or pick up a grill and you’re so smug with confidence in your handiwork that you “just know” everything is good to go. Then you try to test fire it in front of them and wind up looking like some rookie fool. Ask me how I know…
Revisiting this post from a couple of weeks ago to add some fresh info. I got my hands on a new #7509 igniter and set about to measuring the included washer. I found the ones pictured here on eBay for $3.79 landed for a pack of 10. Sizing is M18*25*0.5. They are a perfect fit for both ID & OD but are not stepped and are therefore only about half the height of the OEM washer. Stacking 2 of the new washers solves the problem perfectly so for less than 4 bucks I have an on-hand solution for at least the next 5 rehabs using aftermarket igniters where the washer is not included. I can’t imagine there are too many of us dealing with this on a regular basis, but I felt compelled to document it for posterity while hopefully saving someone else the headache down the road.

Thanks Tom! Nice work! I ended up looking at a lot of different options but I didn't get a chance to try anything. Thank you for putting in the work. I appreciate it.

I saw someone who has one of these on their front patio that lives just outside of my town. Part of me wants to go up to their door and just ask them if I could see it. My curiosity of them needs some quenching.

But at the same time, I’m also not a fan of getting shot at 🤷🏻‍♂️

Where is your sense of "adventure"? :D

Josh,
That is one on my “want to do” list, especially since I picked up a pretty decent gas kettle this fall that I want to restore.

I also agree it would be a great way to doll up a grill in lieu of a cover. Lots of history there.

I will try to work on it soon.
Wow that's awesome Jon!! I will definitely buy some off you if you put them up for sale.

PROTOTYPE

I couldn’t resist, so here is a first draft prototype. The Weber logo I already had; I just had to move the “R” registered trademark. The gas and flame are not perfect as I used the screenshot taken by @Josh Dekubber. If someone has a clearer picture of this, please let me know.

No insults taken from constructive criticism, so please let me know your suggestions and observations.
