Yep, a wood handle should fit in them. But, you can use your old end caps as well on the blue lid.

Post a thread in the buy sell trade forum with specifics on which year Genesis Gold you have

The early years ( I think ) 2000, 2001 had an 8006 number on the control panel and used a manifold that worked in Genesis x1000s

Later years ( again, I think ) 2002 through 2006 used a manifold like a Silver B. The control panel will have a four digit number starting with 81, like 8101 or 8128 etc.

The earlier versions are not compatible with later versions.
