Here it is out of the frameWell, I would probably start by getting the cook box out of the frame. If you don't want to strip down the entire cook box maybe you could just do that side.

I would strip it all or at least sand the living crap out of it. Do you have an air compressor? Most of the original paint is still in tact. This is the only spot where it isn’t.

Working on finding a source for sandblasting. It is best to remove all the paint on a cook box before repainting. If you don't, it wont look too good and any left over paint might start peeling later on. Having the cook box sand blasted is the best option and can usually be done for around $25.
You need to go where @Bruce gets them done for $25.Working on finding a source for sandblasting.
Reached out to about 10 places that say they do it.
First guy said their tools were too powerful for the job.
Second guy quoted me $180
The search continues!
Still not bad, are you getting the end caps done too?He raised his prices to thirty bucks for a cookbox this year
So you're at $50 a grill for sandblasting.$10 each
Were you at Bruce? I’m in Kenosha. He raised his prices to thirty bucks for a cookbox this year
Once upon a time I restored a 1969 GTO. Now I restore grillsLOLOLOLO
My man charges me $20 for a cookbox and 2 lid sides, it's called small town hospitality
I also consider him a friend but that doesn't get in the way of business.
He's a GTO car guy, 1967%

Alright boys…tell me I didn’t mess this up? Got the grinder and cup brush at HF and went to work. Any other suggestions on the work? Should I be worried about any imperfections on the surface? Any other cleaning prior to next steps?$10 each
Any other prep you’d do (sanding, cleaning) prior to paint? It looks good to me.
Can you see wire marks in the bare metal? You might want to sand out any visible imperfections as they will likely show after you paint. You definitely want to clean it before you paint. I use brake cleaner or mineral spirits.Any other prep you’d do (sanding, cleaning) prior to paint?
