HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

I bought my panel mount power jack at Fry's on Mopac and Parmer. Just buy the right sized one. They also sell the LEDs if you want to just pick them up at the store, same thing here, just buy the same size.

Oh I never though of Frys- just Radio shack. Awesome! I found this http://www.frys.com/product/452749?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG which according to http://www.linrose.com/leds.html is a supr bright green 3mm. Do I need to worry about the voltage or no?

Ordered all my parts including a case I am going to try for the project...

One thing I forgot to ask, is there a software alarm that can be triggered on a phone via the browser if temps reach a certain point? Or is the only alarm at this point the physical on on the board?

Not having powered mine up and played with it yet, I was wondering the same thing. If there's nothing in there right now, I sort of envision a script within the web page / display app that sends an email to my cell provider's SMS gateway using Gmail for the outgoing message.

Trying to set my Rpi up for remote internet access, not too good with port forwarding and protocols. What is the best way to set it up? I have set up a dns account, but not sure what to do next I got free dns account though www.dlinkddns.com.

Im not absolutely sure, but the next thing you have to do is login to your router and forward a port to the outside world. Hopefully someone can come in here and give your more directions. I dont have this setup just yet so I am not much help- sorry.

I was looking at the wiki and went through this forum, but does the HeaterMeter return data somehow? An API call or URL? I see the LinkMeter will "Get last HeaterMeter status update in JSON format". I want to build an Android App that can connect to the HeaterMeter, read probes, and where I can set alarms and have it go off if it reaches the threshold.

P.S. My HeaterMeter board arrived today. I have almost everything but now the Rpi is back ordered :*(

I've pushed a few minor updates in a new rPi firmware snapshot image http://capnbry.net/linkmeter/snapshots/bcm2708/

This contains a few minor fixes to the configuration page, forces a configuration refresh when 'Reboot AVR' is used, and speeds web page load times by about 10-15%. It also includes the 20121224 firmware which lights up the other two LEDs for fan on / lid mode (hey better than nothing, right?).

There's no sysupgrade procedure for the rPi target so the easiest way to upgrade is to make a backup of your configuration (System -> Backup), flash the new image, and restore the configuration.

Upgraded last night without issue, thanks Bryan!

I got my enclosure today. I think it will work quite well, even if it is a little bigger than the 3D case developed here. I will be able to layout the ports a little better I think. It has a cut out for a 2x16 LCD already with an acrylic window to cover and protect it. It also comes with a stand for the back that when attached will allow me to prop the device up vertically.

Here is the LCD and HeaterMeter board in it to show you a size reference. I don't have A Rpi yet because it is back ordered.

Unfortunately the New Haven LCD doesn't quite fit the mounting studs. I will have to figure something out.

I plan to use panel mounts for all connections. I am going to mount the 4 sensor probe holed on the front of the case underneath the joystick button. Probably mount the DC and RCA jack on opposite sides on the case.

Since the Raspberry Pi will be mounted in the middle and not flush with the side of the case, I have bought these panel mount extender cables. I will put the USB and Ethernet at the top of the case and the HDMI on the side near the top. I had originally thought I would extend the SD card slot under the battery cover, but after getting this case today I am not sure that is going to work.

For heatermeter functionality you do not need access to the usb, ethernet, or HDMI connectors on the rPi. They have no functionality. That shouldn't stop you from adding them if you want.

Yes I know. Well, I need the USB for a wireless adapter. I guess that could rest safely in the case. I doubt I will use the Ethernet or hdmi. I guess when I need to I can just open the battery lid and plug into the Rpi there.

That's pretty neat, where did you get it? I have had an incredibly hard time finding boxes that have nice bezels for the LCD so it doesn't look all ghetto poking through the case. It is really strange that the NewHaven doesn't match the LCD standoff footprint. I have a handful of other 16x2 LCDs and they all have identical hole placement.

http://www.okwenclosures.com/products/okw/datec-mobil.htm. I actually got it free as a sample. There are a lot of companies out there that have similar products.

Any guidance for getting the network configuration to stick? Last night I got the RPi and Heatermeter combo up and running via wifi. I clicked to disable the wired interface, saved that then shut it down. Today, it's back with the wired interface address, and the device won't respond at the wifi address.

I've got the wired interface set to a static ip, and have the wifi grabbing dhcp....but have reserved an IP address in my router for the wifi MAC address.

I'm wondering if I should either set wifi to static, or set wired to dhcp to get it to stay.
