Koegel truck came thru town a couple of weeks ago and picked up a few thing, Vienna hot dogs and Flint style chili were a couple of items I picked up.

Fried some tater tots on the disco

Cooked some of the chili on the induction cook top in a CI skillet

and grilled not steamed some Vienna dogs.

One dog dressed and one not

Served with some tots

Looks pretty good :)

Wondered about"flint style chili" and found this:
ingredients:
CONEY ISLAND SAUCE
1 TBS Shortening1 TBLS butter
2 chopped onions1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 tbs garlic powder1 TBLS chili powder
1 TBLS prepared mustard1 (6 oz) can tomato sauce or ketchup
(6 oz) water
4 or 5 weiners (hot dogs) ground

But then I found this reference to the "flint" aspect:
Now, you'll also find a recipe for a Detroit Coney Sauce on the Koegel Meats Recipes pages. If you're not aware, Koegel Meats actually makes a Hot Dog Chili Sauce in a six-pound package that is, according to the web site:

"A fine blend of beef hearts, flour, cracker meal and our unique spices to create a coney island topping for Detroit style Coney Island flavor. This also makes a great nacho topping. This product is packaged in a six pound bag and sold to coney island restaurants in the Detroit area."

So I'm confused. Is there a preferred style here?

Flint style the chili is drier, more like a loose meat, and Detroit coneys the chili is more like a regular chili, has a lot more liquid. It think the Detroit Coneys are more popular. If you go to American Coneys website you can buy their Coney kit

Remember Vienna dogs when I was a kid growing up in the Chicago 'burbs, they were the best of the best.

Vienna is a Chicago based sausage(hot dog) company.
Koegel is based almost at the end of the runway of the Flint airport, they make a "Vienna sausage" hot dog, natural casing minimum filler, excellent tube steaks. There's a Coney Island here in Kalamazoo that has used Koegel since they opened 1915, I believe.
They use sort of a drier style chili and they are fabulous!

Thanks John :)

Born and raised in Detroit, MI, the one thing I truly miss living in Nevada is a authentic Detroit style coney dog. I can get one at The D casino, but I hate going down to crazy Freemont St. for that one hot dog.

So, whenever I hit town, one mandatory stop is to either Lafayette Coney Island or American Coney Island on Lafayette St. in downtown Detroit. No, I'm not giving my preference. I'm following in the footsteps of 100 Chowdown Countdown war of coneys.

Koegel hot dogs with authentic coney sauce makes me drool!
