Got myself a Father's Day Present Monday

George, ammo has become scarce and very dear $$$$ wise. Just bought a bucket of 250 9mm $75 plus shipping. I can't find 357 to save my life. 38spl isn't too hard but it's up about $12 per box of 50 over last year. I sure hope things settle down. I used to be able to just walk into Farm & Fleet and buy what I needed easily and inexpensively. Last time I tried the shelves were bare. I asked an employee and he said some guy just one guy, walked up to the shelves the day prior and just took every box and case of every caliber and gauge filled the entire cart and bought it all. SMH

Oddly enough Cabelas wont sell to me in IL. Go figure. At least online. I am sure I could go in store but nearest one is 50 miles or so one way. I may try some of the WI shops.
Just looked at the site listed above. Not a single bullet in stock of 9mm :(

Clint also mentioned natchez as well.
If you are near a bassproshop or cabelas it's worth stopping in to check their stores.

Larry, as I am typing this they have 9mm at Sportsman Guide. $225 for 1000 rounds for non members.

Those are all on backorder too!

See if you can find a gunsmith that runs a home shop - there's one near me that sells reloaded ammo and reloading equipment.

Try to get brass cases, not sure what other type is harmful, but some cheap ammo is corrosive or somehow harmful to your barrel (forget the exact prob).

used to buy from Cheaper than Dirt too:
Oh wow backordered till Nov 2020. Sorry.

In Arizona no CCW required or training class anyone 18 years or older can carry open or concealed. Welcome to the Wild West!
I visited family in Parker AZ. 6-8 years ago & was surprised by signs on the doors of the casino. The sign stated that you had to check in your firearm, or something to that effect. Amazing to me - being from the peoples republic of Kalifornia.

Where am I prohibited from carrying a firearm (open or concealed) on the premises?

It's amazing to see signs on the front of banks saying Firearms prohibited inside the bank. Really wonder if that would stop a bank robber. I could just imagine a teller seeing someone walking up to their window carrying a firearm being a little nervous.

I know right? It's not the honest person carrying they have to worry about. I think the only reason those signs COULD help is for the guards to know if he sees a gun it's a "bad guy". Kinda like when I worked at airline. If a LEO was aboard the captain (especially an FFDO) had to be notified, any Air Marshalls as well and they all had to know where each was so they would not shoot one another.
BTW I was able to get 10 boxes of 50 9mm 124FMJ for $180 shipped. Just made the order this AM. I don't think too bad a deal

Where you get that from Larry?

Mine has the 18.5" barrel I think, 7 shot capacity instead of 8. If you don't already have guns I'd think twice before getting one. Some people think they give you strength but they open the door to a lot of problems.

Can you expound on that? Accidental shooting maybe?

Of course, accidental, because some folks have their heads swell if they're armed and don't get away from trouble when they should. Also any time people with no experience have a fire arm, things can go awry. All I can say is training, training and more training. Guns are tools and like any other "tool" can cause harm if used incorrectly. Honestly there are CCW instructors out there not doing their jobs properly. Case in point. Not long ago I am at grocery store. Older lady in front of me writes a check. Cashier asks to see ID. Lady pulls the CCW card out. Poor clerk said not right ID. Lady goes on loudly now about how "whoops I gave you my gun license" "Do you want to see my gun?" and proceeds to begin pulling it out of her hand bag! At which time the clerk (poor kid's eyes were about to pop) and I stop her from doing so. Concealed Carry means just that CONCEALED and discreet. Only in the most dire of threats should it ever be seen.
Not saying you would do these things BUT you can now begin to understand I think what Clint was trying to get across.

Larry that's a scary thought that it was just sitting in her hand bag with her keys, lipstick, cellphone, pack a gum, etc. Hopefully it was holstered. Not the best place for a concealed carry if you ask me.:eek::eek:

From what Bob mentioned on this thread he's handled firearms before. I'm sure he understands how to handle and treat loaded firearms.
No matter what always training and discipline are important regardless.

Being raised around a lot of outdoorsmen, we hunted for squirrel & rabbits a lot, but all they would let me carry was a single shot 16-gage shotgun, and didn't get carry that until I was at least 10 years old or so. As got older, I was entrusted with a .22 rifle, but one day, I was checking the safety while hunting for squirrels, and gun went off! It just so happened the man walking in front of me almost got shot in the head as a bullet went by.

Fortunately, I was carrying the rifle at a 45° angle (as I was taught to do), and disaster was averted.

A former co-worker of mine was cleaning his .22 rifle one time, and not not knowing it was loaded, he pointed it at his wife's head and said "Pow!". He then turned the rifle to the aquarium, pulled the trigger, and water went everywhere! It's a good thing he didn't pull the trigger at his wife!

Things like these are what scares me to death of firearms in some people's hands. I know all too well the heartache they can bring. I have had 4 friends end their lives with them. I can relate a different story as well. My deceased father in law was a cantankerous, gruff and some would say downright mean old guy. Though he and I always seemed to get along well. Oddly he had patience for children that I was always amazed at. But it always seemed there was some underlying "anger" none of us (even my wife or her siblings) could never figure out. It was not until his funeral we understood why. (BTW he died of nature causes) His best friend gave a eulogy and we finally understood the "secret" hurt he carried most f his life. Seems when he was a younger boy during the depression the family had to subsist many times on what they could hunt. Mostly rabbit and deer up in far west central WI (not far from where Bruce lives now). He was tasked one day with hunting some rabbits for dinner one Sunday. Apparently it was VERY cold that day and out he went bundled up with a little .22 rifle. For some unknown reason the rifle failed to work after the first shot and rabbit he got. So he took the rabbit home, and left it and the rifle on the kitchen table while he went to the bathroom (which I guess thanks to all the clothes he was layered in was quite the challenge). Anyway while in the bathroom, his younger brother picked up the rifle on the table pulled the trigger on it and killed their younger brother (so my wife turns out had an "uncle" which was never mentioned and she never knew of). He was chastised constantly because it was "his fault". So for his entire life he lived with that. He never told a soul about it except his best friend. Her uncle that actually was the one that pulled the trigger nor any of her other relatives ever once mentioned it. Can't imagine how he lived with that all those years. But it explained a lot.
But bottom line sadly the things I see and know of about people with weapons scare me more than the weapons. Accidents with "tools" happen all the time. Whether that tool is a gun or a power saw. But stupidity like what I saw that day in the store with that lady. THAT is what terrifies me
