Genesis Jr Restoration

Didn't get as much done as I wanted to today but I got the handle, side table and swing table sanded and ready for staining. Still have to sand the 2 lower shelves/tables. I just screwed them back into the Z-Metal to easily keep everything in order. Also wanted to mock it up with raw wood unstained to get a idea of what I want to do as far as finishing the wood slats. The Z-Metal and Swing table brackets and in excellent condition and the screws don't even have surface rust on them. I'm still going to swap the screws out for SS ones though. I have just been sanding by hand. I just want to take the old stain off nothing more.

First cook may be in February when I return. I haven't decided yet. Otherwise I may cook some Ribeye steaks on it tomorrow. If I do I'll definitely share some pics of that!
The one thing you'll never see me or a couple of other guys post are pictures of a restored grill actually cooking food. I can never bring myself to do it, so you have to prove that you're actually going to use the grill quickly after it's done being restored or it's just another garage grill. The greasier the food you cook on it, the more I'll like it, 😜

Pretty sure this was my maiden voyage, first cook on my earlier Skyline, since sold to a friend when I left Florida:

No bites on trying to sell my new blackout Skyline, so I think I will keep it and use it to replace my 2-burner Skyline as a regular use grill. I will post pictures of its first cook. I admit it will be tough to get started, but I have absolutely no more room for garage - or office - queens!

Finally finished with this one! I know this one was a long and drawn out process. Not being at my main house with all of my tools and parts plus a 4 month gap between starting and finishing. With some off topic conv. So if you are not still following this thread I don't blame you lol. If you are here is my end result.

I just finished with my favorite part the wood. I couldn't be happier with how the wood turned out a long with everything else. I stained the wood black and then lightly sanding it to expose just a little of the wood. Then I put a couple coats of General Finish 450 top coat semigloss clear. I lightly sanded that which added dimension in grain, color and sheen. I love how the wood looks especially on this grill but I understand this type of finish isn't for everyone.
