First night in the new home

I looked up the weather averages for your area.
The hottest months are July @ 86 and August @ 84.
That’s a piece of California heaven right there.

If I remember correctly I think you were just on the other side of Diablo from me.
I am so glad I don’t spend much time in that hot area anymore.
I don’t miss that traffic or those gas prices one bit either.

Have any big remodel plans? Looks like a nice peaceful spot
As far as the house goes, the only thing needed is that it has carpet, I hate carpet so I'll soon be tearing it out and putting down laminate. A few light fixtures gotta go, they'll be replaced with LED. Other than that, the house is perfect. I had plans for an outdoor kitchen, but now I have to come up with a new plan. The plan I had, wasn't based on a "L" shaped house, and that's what I'm working with now

I believe he mentioned something like this was in the plans awhile back.

This design was based on a home that I was looking at when shopping Paradise CA. I ended up scrapping Paradise because it's going through a major rebuild and it's not as peaceful as Shingletown. I now need to look at outdoor kitchen designs for a "L" shaped house

Moving on up........great looking digs ChuckO.. Stick burner coming up.....
Yes sir, I’m now researching stick burners as we speak. I can get a cord of Oak for < $100 delivered (but no stacked) I’m looking forward to that

Work Horse Pits, Mill Scale Metalworks, Lang, Lone Star Grillz, Franklin & Shirley Fabrication just a few to check out.

Are there any burn restrictions in your area? We just had 3 fires in my area, one allegedly started by an arsonist, and one of them caused by the Public Works Dept. moving boulders around on a hot dry day. I didn't know such a seemingly innocuous thing could cause a fire, but I guess when the conditions are right...

There are burn days, I’m not sure when or the conditions requirements. When I was up there during the Park Fire at 50% containment, it was a burn day much to my surprise. I’ve never understood the thinking here in the golden state, I just hope I don’t rue the day I didn’t leave when I had the chance

As for the burn day, I think a little common sense would go a long way there. It's a huge bureaucracy and agencies don't always get the memo. Witness the Airport Fire that was started by the Public Works Dept at the end of a long, dry hot spell...the head of the dept. quietly stepped down over that one.

As for leaving CA, I won't try to talk you out of it. Some people hate it here...we have some very close friends that pulled up stakes and moved to Montana a couple of years ago. It's a beautiful place, located near Yellowstone Park, and they are very happy. My wife has some physical disabilities so snow, ice, and humidity are not things that she can tolerate well. And if more people left CA, maybe the property values would come down a little bit. As it is right now, buyers are climbing over each other to buy here, as you well know. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Chuck, if you don't have it already, I strongly suggest installing the app "watch duty" from watchduty.org on your phone.

The free version will get you alerts for three counties. I'm at the fringe of fire country but I have family up and down Eldorado, Placer and Nevada County. It's good to stay in the know.

We have something similar down south, the South Coast Air Quality Management District Air Alerts, that gives alerts on air quality, and also advises when there is a no burn alert (fireplaces, mostly) because of the air quality. For those in SoCal, here's the sign-up info:

EDIT: Just noticed this is for the entire US, not just SoCal. If breathing is important to you ("If you can't breathe, nothing else matters"), have a look.
