First feast at the cottage…

After arriving, I just didn’t feel much like a big feed, long day in the car and all. Had a quick bite of Plaths smoked pork loin spread in a sandwich. 6+ hours in the saddle and another 1 1/2 unloading and putting things away, I just wanted a drink, and to sit in something that was not moving!
so, I had the drink, enjoyed the sandwich and sat on my vacationing butt for a few hours. No internet at the cottage so, this is costing me a cup of coffee at McDonalds. Not bad.
Anyway, last night was nice steaks, garlic thyme Compound butter, asparagus, little potatoes baked Brie and garlic toast! No vampires will get near us!
Excellent beach weather yesterday, looks like more of the same today! Possible rain tomorrow or Monday.
Absolutely no complaints, bugs aren’t even too bad!

Will post as possible, it was a good dinner!
Sorry, no “after” pictures, we were all hungry!
There is some leftover steak which I will convert to hash for tomorrow’s breakfast (Sunday)

Use the steaks for steak and eggs! Better than hash......

Not really enough to feed five, as steak and eggs but, it used up the leftover potatoes very nicely, very limited refrigerator space I need to consume as much as quickly as possible to avoid having a ton of garbage upon departure. Made some yellow rice and those leftovers will be used as a “Hot yellow rice Spam sandwich“ maybe tomorrow.
Plaths smoked pork chops tonight, their sausage for breakfast tomorrow.
With a tip of the hat to Tony UK, I will try some Blood sausage, if it’s in stock when I go there shortly!
just remembered, I have two whole chickens to roast, maybe those will happen tonight and the chops tomorrow. Roasted Beets, more baby potatoes?
I think that’s enough of being in front of a screen for today! Butcher shop, back to cottage, lunch, nap!

Did you manage to get hold of any blood sausage?
Here's a pic of the Stornoway Black Pudding, (PGI), we get from our butcher. This stuff is from the Isle of Lewis & Harris, and is grate when sliced to a half inch thick hockey puck, and grilled like you would a burger, (crust on both sides and moist in the middle).
I'm going to thaw this one out and grill it this weekend.

Top tips:
1. If you manage to get hold of any blood sausage. Grill it so it can be *crumbled in the fingers. Then crumble it over grilled king scallops.....or any scallops for that matter.
2. Or it can be sliced, shallow-fried in a knob of butter to accompany bacon 'n' eggs, or a bacon sandwich for breakfast.
3. I've heard of people that brush it with warm honey then dusted with polenta and grilled. (I'm going to try that).

*Edit: I'm not sure blood sausage can be crumbled when cooked. Black Pudding will.
Edit: Traditional UK black pudding is available in the US. Parker's of Buffalo, NY.

I decided that some spam and eggs with yellow rice was in order one evening when it was just my loving wife and my selfish self.
The chicken was excellent but, I enjoyed one too many Bushmills and forgot to pull the bacon off to crisp the skin! Oh, well, it all ends up in the same place anyway.
I’m not sure what we will indulge in this evening, smoked chops or maybe fresh whitefish, we shall see what the fish monger has to offer.
I believe I have put the capital R in relaxation on this trip.
Yesterdays lunch was at Austin Brothers in Alpena. Fantastic beer, amazing food! I had a “Hot honey pulled tri tip with onions and cheese curds“ (on the sandwich) I could only eat half! Great place!!

Here’s the whitefish from the other night, shot during a mosquito attack so, it’s a touch out of focus, apologies.
Also beets and the basting sauce. I felt awful so, I didn’t even have a piece, I just went to bed.
Tony, the blood sausage is more bologna ring style, that might wait until we get home. I’ve been pretty busy cooking for 6 every day well, most every day, I’m just kind of getting tired of it. Pictures may have to wait until I can get a decent connection.

Trying to post pictures again, nearer civilization.
The Green Spot is pretty good!
