First Annual TVWBB Upper Midwest Meet is a GO

Unfortunately, this is only a 23 minute drive for me.
Gerry, since you're a local can you suggest any decent lodging in the area? I'm only about 90 minutes away but if it turns into a long day I'd be better off crashing someplace nearby. I poked around Google Maps but didn't come up with much, and the Best Western in Antioch wants $170+ for that Saturday night!!

There isn't much out there. There are a few hotels east of there by the interstate, I think a Hampton Inn near 132 (Grand Ave) and 94 in Gurnee. Check for hotels near Gurnee Mills Mall.
Unfortunately, that area is probably a half hour away...
Gerry

I see you are from central Wisconsin.
You might search for hotels west of the get together near Richmond Il. and up towards Lake Geneva. I can't speak to the quality of anything around me though.

Gerry

Not much in Richmond. My buddy lives in Spring Grove (literally right around the corner from the state park) his back yard over looks it.

I saw a Baymont or Wyndham there, but RT12 runs through Richmond which is how he would get home. Lake Geneva might have some hotels and is not that far away.

Gerry

No luck in LG...any vacancies are priced at way more than I want to spend. Looks like it might be just a day trip after all.

Yah, I am planning on camping at the state park. But, otherwise, it would be a day trip for me as well. Stoughton shouldn't be all that far away.

I am a good hour north of Stoughton, so I figured Stoughton would be that much closer to the Chain O lakes SP.

Just a reminder to everyone that we are still looking for suggestions of "how to's" and other activities for our TVWBB Upper Midwest Meet this June 19.

And, if you haven't signed up already, why don't you go ahead and reserve your spot!

A pinata filled with Thermoworks Thermapens and ThermoPops that looks like a redhead Genesis lid and firebox.

Or it could just be filled with candy.🤷‍♂️
I still like the piñata idea...;)

Alex, that is a cool idea. I did the Army thing, so I have some affinity for this, but I wouldn't be competing. I don't do anything Fast any more.

Hi everyone. A quick update here. We now have 9 people signed up to attend the meet on June 19th. I know several of you would like to attend but the distance might be a bit far. One way to get around that is to carpool with another member who will be attending. There are 4 parties coming from Wisconsin so far (Go Wisconsin). I would be willing to pick up anyone on my way down, but I will be heading down the day before with my camper and camping at the state park camp ground. Then I will stay over night the day of the meet and come back the following day. I know that won't work for most of you, but if it does, let me know.

The sooner people commit to attending, the easier it will be for us to organize and hopefully get some outside support. But, we will be accepting people right up to the day of the First Annual TVWBB Midwest Meet.
All forum members are invited, gas, coal, pellet, whatever and we invite you to bring guests. Wives, hubbies, kids or good friends are all welcome.

Here is an updated map with locations and names. Pins in red are committed, pins in yellow are tentative. You can post in this thread if you are open to commuting (either driving or riding) or talk between between others that are on the same general driving route as you would be. Get hooked up and come on out. All it could take is you getting with one other in your area to make it possible for both to come out.

Also, anyone considering flying out to attend the meet, you can fly into either Chicago-Ohare or Milwaukee General Mitchell airports. They are both major airports and both roughly an hour drive from the meet site. I would suggest that if you have a choice, use the Milwaukee airport as it is not as hectic as Chicago and the drive to the State Park would be a lot easier.
