Elk burger

Friends of mine brought home some Elk meat from their vacation, asked me if I wanted some Elk, I said sure. I thawed out the Elk Burgers, did not know how to cook it. I just added some garlic pepper, grilled it on gas grill, flipped, and then added some Texas style BBQ sauce. The elk burger tasted good. A little firmer then beef, not gamey at all. I have some elk steaks in the freezer, I'll have to give that a shot soon too. With the changes to Photobucket, I finally figured it out on how to post using flickr. Here are the pics :).

I love Elk, but never had Elk burgers. Gonna have to get some Elk burger and give it a go. Nice cook Michael

You did good Michael, Elk is really good and 99% of time not gamey at all. The steaks will be excellent also. Good meaty flavor and a firmer flesh than beef steaks.

Fyi I moved off of PB and I also am using Flickr and like it so far.

Michael : What did you think of the Elk burgers?
My neighbor gave me some Elk burgers from his recent hunt, it tasted great, but for some reason it was to rich for my system.

I asked my friends about this elk meat, it was farmed raised, so that is most likely why it tasted closer to beef for me, not gamy or whatever. It had a very firm texture of the meat, but if I closed my eyes, I swear it tasted very much like super lean beef. It was mental thing to try eating elk, but it ended up tasting pretty good. Hope this helps :).

Well maybe i added to much to it, the burger was very rich in flavor, but it made my stomach churn for two days.

Thanks for the quick response Michael.

My grandma gave me an apple box filled with assorted elk meat from my uncle many years ago - I loved the stuff. I found it rich, not gamey, definitely different. Friday night some friends said they had some in their freezer and they didn't like it, I forgot to grab it but I'll have a little more soon!

I told my friends to mix it in some spaghetti sauce to get used to the flavor but they were all "nope nope nope - you can have it"

I let my dog eat 2-3# of raw elk meat my cousin was butchering (20 years ago)........ won't do that again :)
