That is probably why their French Roast is seems so much different (not shiny and oily) than it used to be some time ago.So I came across this article. I know we'd been discussing it

Except, I'd have to think if PEET's was behind their FR it would not be so "bad". Honestly they stuff was just not good. Whereas I could see it being them on the House Blend. That is probably why their French Roast is seems so much different (not shiny and oily) than it used to be some time ago.
Agreed, with the disclaimer that the only PEET's coffee is the Major Dickason's, and that's only when it goes on sale at Costco.Except, I'd have to think if PEET's was behind their FR it would not be so "bad". Also FWIW, I opened the Cameron's (the beans from Shakopee MN), today. Pretty nice cup, but I have to "dial things in" a bit. And the Breville brewer once again did a nice job. Fully saturated bed. So, I think that as much as I liked that OXO machine for it's ergonomics that damn flat brew basket (or something) is it's "downfall" to me. Which is sad. It has all the makings to be my "perfect" brewer. Nice fit, easy operation, pretty versatile. Just such a disappointment. Because OXO does use a cone basket in their other brewers. Hell, I'd buy their 8 cup except it does not have a "set ahead" feature and I need that for those REALLY early AM's wife or I sometimes have.
BTW PEET's is on sale again at Costco. $11.99 per 2lb. Quite honestly this Cameron's at $10.99 per 2lb I think is a better overall value and really is making a fine cup of coffee for me in the OXO. Oddly, this Cameron's seems to be a "sweet spot" coffee for the OXO. It's really turning out a VERY nice cup. I used 67 grams, on the slightly finer side of med grind (at least on the KA grinder's dial), to my normal 40 oz water. And it's turning out one helluva fine cup. Even better than the Breville! And I REALLY thought the Breville was gonna be better.Agreed, with the disclaimer that the only PEET's coffee is the Major Dickason's, and that's only when it goes on sale at Costco.
Yup! I always hit the coffee aisle at Costco. I live my coffee adventures vicariously through your posts, as we don't have room for all of that brewing equipment and the wife is a tea drinker.BTW PEET's is on sale again at Costco. $11.99 per 2lb. It has an interesting way it brews as well. Has a large glass "tank" or "kettle". With a large heating element under it. Water gets heated up to a near boil, then a secondary heater and very silent pump kick in and pump the perfectly temp'd water up and over to the shower head.
Takes a bit for the water to get hot, but once hot, the brew cycle goes perfectly within SCA spec. I guess the innovation is rather than heat the water as it's either pumped or moved by simple expansion, the water is fully hot before brewing begins so it stays very stable throughout the cycle. I saw no fluctuation at all in water temp during a cycle. It hits 200 and stays there
