I blast the grease tray screws and paint them too. I like the little things.

The blasted and painted grease tray rails installed on the cookbox

Fixed up some old casters (a while back) but I like the older frame inserts, so I update them so they don’t retain water.

I also like to “braid” the igniter wires. Less hanging down the better. And I polished up the fittings on the regulator. View attachment 118400

I’ve yet to install the blasted and painted tank scale because it’s yet to have the amazing stickers created by the one and only @Jon Tofte

But here it is, with the gray (black mica) lid View attachment 118401

And here’s the SS lid

I’m torn. The SS looks great! But I’d want to switch the knobs and igniter to black. But I don’t have many black knobs and igniters and being late in the season, not sure how well it will sell.

This is not a keeper. SS or Gray lid?
I think it will sell faster and for more money with the stainless lid. It could just be me, but I don't think a Silver B has that much curb appeal anyway no matter how nicely the work is done. The stainless lid and cook box panel kick it up several notches for me.

That’s exactly what I think too. This lid is just so nice that I don’t want to part with it. Even if I have another one that’s a little better! This disease is so debilitating 🤣

The way that one is set up I might have a harder time parting with it too. It is ok to restore them and keep them, at least until you get sick of looking at them and sell them.

Used some patience this afternoon and cut out the tank scale sticker from @Jon Tofte, and put it on a freshly blasted and painted hanger. It looks great! View attachment 118499

Have a guy coming for it tomorrow. Will be sad to see it go, but onto the next one I go! Trying to decide if I want to get after a 1000LX, or do a nice silver C I have waiting in the wings.
It does look really nice, did you replace both stickers?

It’s always interesting to see someone else’s methods. I’ve braided wires before but have never seen or thought to do it on a grill project. I’m a 4 zip tie guy for my igniter wires. 3 on the manifold arm and one at the base of the drip leg at the push button. It’s funny to think how different and dedicated we all can be to something that the rest of the normal world probably wouldn’t ever see or give a second thought about. That’s what make this forum such a great place.

What I like about braiding them is that it also kind of shortens the wires.

@TomRc - looking at your picture again reminded me of one modification I want to make.

Where that manifold support bracket is, I was thinking of drilling a hole in it, and into the frame and running a safety wire thru it or some other way of keeping it tight to the frame. I have just wheeled these across a driveway and had them pop off. I am open to any suggestions on how to do that, and make it look clean, and proper.

It’s certainly a concept worth consideration. I’ve had several people reach back out to me after just getting home with one of my grills to say “I found this gray thing that must’ve fallen off the grill in my car / truck when I went to unload it”. I try to remember to do a show & tell about it before they leave now…especially if they’ve going to lay the grill down for transport.

Its been a bit since I have used a safety wire pliers, but I think a braided loop, sinched down snug would look nice... Under the manifold that nobody will take off to see it

If you are worried about loosing your manifold hanger you could just bend it around the manifold. When you unhook it it will just swing on the manifold. Can't be lost. Easy to connect and disconnect and it can't be lost or misplaced.20250819_093827~2.jpg
Pictures just for visual reference. This one is not bent around the manifold.

Or you're wanting to permanently attach it to the frame?

Oh I think I see what you're trying to achieve now. You're looking to make it so that it can't be disconnected accidentally. You want it to be installed and then somehow secured to lock it in place and then if you ever have to take it off you have to unlock it/unsecure it?

There’s a song that got popular by Britney Spears back in my youth. It was called oops I did it again…

So far I had picked up 3 sidewinders, all 3 were the best price, free but all had major cookbox issues. This one appears at first glance to be solid. Floor is shot. But I think I have a couple of good bottoms for these.

A full-out, to the 9’s sidewinder is on my winter project list. I now have yet another green grill, but the one plus is that one with a junk cookbox was also green, so I’ll have enough doors/lids to pick from an all SS, black, or green one. Spoiler alert, I plan to get rid of every bit of the Gray on it.

Cheers 🍻
