Cody's Corner of Random Rehabbing & Shenanigans

Free is free, and plenty of stuff you can use. And it could still be simply cleaned up and sold even with fade if you wanted to go that route.

Being it’s an NG I think I’m going to do just that. Minimal investment. Blast the SS rod grates and polish them up, throw a set of flavor bars in it, give it a good cleaning and send it on down the road!

Have to find a friend with a NG hookup though, to test it out.

Yesterday while having lunch with my son after sitting in urgent care for a couple hours (strep test came back negative), this was posted.
After swinging and missing at a couple blue heads the last couple years, I had told myself any opportunity at a blue head I am jumping at!
The inside of this thing is shot, and I could tell it from the pics. The frame looked surprisingly solid and the control panel looked good enough. So all the boxes were checked.
I messaged him and he replied immediately, so it’s a bit more than a half hour drive that felt like an eternity. I pulled up and it was still in his garage, I got about ten feet from it and all my excitement of this blue head journey was finally coming to fruition fell to the floor.
Dead center in the top of the lid was this rotten looking spot 😭

Think Gone in Sixty Seconds - blue heads are now my Eleanor.

We talked and negotiated further so I did come home with it. However the lid pin was seized in there real good. So I removed that side end cap and handle and while trying to get the end cap off, snapped the end cap. Not the junked out cookbox with a massive hole in it. Not a biggie, as I have spares but it’s just some sort of poetic justice to seal the journey…
I hope your son is doing better Cody. Bummer about the blue lid. I've never even seen a blue for sale on FB Marketplace. I saw one being used as a personal grill in Pennsylvania from a restorer. Would love to find one. I heard from someone in Michigan that the blues were only given out to certain big Weber dealers as like a reward for big sales. Good luck on your quest. I like the idea of getting that gold ss porcelain coated. That would look really sharp.

Did it come with stainless steel grates? I know the special edition models from Ace hardware came/come with them already. The newer ones at least are 9mm.
Yup. They were 7mm rods. These 9mm are what I took out of a grease fired summit a couple years ago from the grill graveyard.

My son is doing great. His team won their last baseball tournament of the year this past weekend. It was his last baseball game and him and I had a really nice moment on the field after. He cried, I cried. Our time together on the ball field is over but I know I’ll cherish those times forever. I know he will, and 20 years from now it’ll mean more to him than ever.

Yeah, that is a little sad. My son quit his varsity baseball team because he was afraid that they were only going to let him pitch and not bat or play the field anymore. He was a really good left handed pitcher so I was more than a little disappointed at his decision. Yet he persisted on playing football all four years even though he really wasn't too good at it.

That's fantastic Cody! What a great achievement by your son and his team. Glad you were able to be with him at the game - I'm sure he really appreciated it!

It’s tough to watch a kid with talent essentially give up on something you’ve watched him (and helped him) work so hard on.
