Butter

Rich, I am sorry THAT happened to Barb, but I wish more people did that to people that can do something about the rising cost of EVERTTHING!!!!!!!!

People are raising their prices because they can, without proving WHY they have to.
I'll echo this.... but the front line folks like cashiers, wait staff, bar tenders, etc. don't set the prices. They don't deserve the ire.

OTOH... this is capitalism. I don't agree that somebody has to prove that they have to raise prices.

I get “short” with some companies but, I do my best to not chew out the poor so and so that happened to answer the phone, once I get my frustration addressed I try to make sure they know that I appreciate their help (when they can) and assure them that I know that it’s NOT their fault. This seems to be extremely evident in medical situations but, that’s another slippery slope that is NOT butter.

Small Pistol Primers.
I don't personally reload, but I heard that components had been scarce and extremely expensive when they were available. Regular ammo has come down enough in price since the pandemic that I recently bought some myself.

The lack of reloading components was seriously threatening my Cowboy Action Shooting future. Those two thousand primers will get me through the winter.

Now, back to the BUTTER. Are we talking salted or unsalted? :ROFLMAO:

I only buy unsalted, taught that by Mrs. Greenman in HS “meals in minutes” class! Oh, I guess I lied, I do get salted Kerrygold. Typically I use that for specific things, topping Irish soda bread, feasting table use. But, in cooking, I tend to prefer more salt control. It makes my doctor a little happier but, I do enough for him already!

Speaking of butter, around here it's $5.99 a pound. Frys had a sale if you bought 3 pounds you would get $3.00 off on each pound so I bought 3 pounds. So, Barb is set for her holiday baking. We only use unsalted.

Oh boy!!!!!!!

I just checked our grocery receipt from 2 days ago.

For some years now, I have been using Kerrygold tub butter (8 oz.), DH bought me 2 tubs because they were on sale. I looked and they were $4.00 per tub. That is $8.00 per lb., with $1.55 off of each tub. That is a regular price of $11.10 a lb. I about passed out. I told DH to never buy that butter for me ever again.

Their butter is good, but NOT THAT GOOD!!!!!!!!!

I read that one reason salt is added to processed goods is because it’s an inexpensive way to add weight- potato chips was an example.

So buying salted butter means you are getting slightly less actual butter for every pound you buy.

It has to be an extremely small amount, but still less.

Well, that’s really stretching but, yes. The other reason is (from dairy farmers perspective) is that the salt acts as a minor preservative and masks “off” flavors.

We usually buy Land O Lakes unsalted to cook with. I Can't Believe Its Not Butter for a spread.
