BroilMaster P3 Restore

The twin valve looks to be off the shelf but the part with the orifice and aluminum tubing look proprietary. One of the aluminum tubes look damaged in the photos. You might be able to replace it with new aluminum tubing. Ask a gas fitter.

The aluminium tubes are part of the bowtie burner assemble. They will be replaced at 1 unit.

In the first picture here the thin tubing is twisted. That is the damage I think was mentioned, and it does not seem to be part of the replacement burner. I found the burner for $89 on Amazon. Those grates look new and are quite pricey! If I like the grill when I get it, I can see going down a rabbit hole and spending some $$ on parts and upgrades. I would love fold down SS shelves for the front and sides.

Ahh, Joe, those redwood ones could look SO nice! They also help warm up the look of a Broilmaster. It takes time and effort, but you could make them really glow. Have you seen the one Bruce did with solid redwood shelves?

I have seen a few Broilmasters for sale with stainless shelves, though, so they are out there. I am seeing more Broilmasters pop up in a greater area around me. Prices are all over the place, but the cheap ones usually do get gobbled up.

Everything Bruce does is spectacular. He is a hard act to follow, though he does inspire me to do better. After restoring the wood on the Genesis 5, I am in no hurry to do more wood. I will check the condition of the ones I get and if salvageable I will most likely do them. However, I like stainless and easy upkeep, as I am not a glutton for punishment (well maybe a little).

Well, whatever you do, don't dump those wood tables if you find stainless ones. I wish you were close enough to attend our Upper Midwest TVWBB Meet next month. We could probably do some good parts swaps of Broilmaster stuff (and, of course, Weber!) But before you dispose of them, give me a shot at buying them!

You will be my first thought if I part with them. We tried a test run van camping at St. Mary's MD last week to see if we could make it out there for the meet. It did not go so well. The dog freaked out all night and kept us up. I still want to come, but not looking good yet. May try drugs and or sound machine.

Jon, I found your Broilmaster rebuild thread but all your pictures are gone. https://tvwbb.com/threads/comparing-restoring-a-broilmaster-to-a-weber.74529/

Mission accomplished (phase 1). My wife, Rico and I went to Williamsburg, VA Beach, and Yorktown and bought 3 Broilmasters.
1) $20 NG version with a wooden side and front tables that are falling apart. 2 of the 3 CI grates are probably OK, no grease tray and rest of internals toast.
2) $50 Almost did not buy as 2 holes in firebox from where an old shelf (not included) ripped out of the firebox. However all internals seem ok and had SS grates so I bought it.
3) $75 (originally asking $275, agree on $150 before I saw it). Internals shot, but 3 good CI grates, 2 plastic side shelves, 1 folding plastic front shelf and best condition of the 3 on lid and FB.
I should be able to get 1 decent grill working with the parts. If I decide it is a keeper after some testing I will rebuild with new internals and use existing parts for second grill.
I do not know what I should do about what will be the NG version with the firebox with 2 extra shelf holes. I am temped to test out Broilmaster customer support to do a comparison with Weber. If not, I could JB Weld epoxy putty or try to part out and sell the lid and base.
Are there serial #s on these Broilmasters some place?

Parts for these seem expensive vs Weber
Burners seem to rust out way more than any Weber I have seen (See pics)
Does any know what that little metal piece was sticking up in bottom of Firebox?

Joe, you are in real trouble as you now have a secondary diagnosis of Broilmasteritous😲! Sounds like a hood plan to me. I think your damaged firebox is probably too far gone, but you got a lot of hood stuff for a reasonable price. Maybe even had some good fun getting it all, too.

I believe the metal piece you are seeing has to do with the igniter. There are a number of variations in how the igniter and collector was set up. I definitely don’t know all of them.

Those burners are pricey but work great. I think I mentioned earlier, but I think a lot of the problem has to with people not adequately protecting them with enough ceramic briquettes or tiles. Weber burners would dissolve quickly, too, if people left off some flavorizer bars.

Too bad we are so far apart and you can’t be at the Upper Midwest Meet. We could have one huge Broilmaster part swap!

I sure would love to get any one of those three carts! I would also trade some modern handles and tables for the old-fashioned wood ones. Man, maybe we need to have our own meet somewhere between Indiana and Virginia! :coolkettle:

I have 1 wood front and 1 wood side shelf. The wood is pretty cruddy looking. Take a look. I was just going to trash the wood and reuse the brackets (they are in nice shape) to mount a solid wood shelf like Bruce did. The front brackets flip up and down, All the side shelves, plastic and wood ones are fixed mount. Do you have flip up brackets?

I am interested, even if they aren’t perfect. Give me a couple days and I can post some pictures of what I have.

Regarding the solid shelves Bruce did: They are original but date back to the very early Broilmaster grills where the control knobs were on a post underneath the grill. Different burner venturi tube setup. I have seen several of those really old ones that had shelves just like the one Bruce did. I guess they decided to switch to slats like Weber and like Weber switched again to high heat plastic and also stainless shelves.

I just did a Google image search for Broilmaster wood shelves and they are all slotted. I think yours may have been "upgraded" at some point.
Joe: Google is not "All Knowing". Here is a screen shot from the owners manual from my grill. Clearly solid tables, exactly like mine. My grill is from the 1970's and I think the slotted tables were introduced later.

Good to know. I am a such a BM newbie. I am going to have to read the manual to figure out which way that stainless steel plate in the bottom goes in.
