Beef Stew with Beer

Our weather is gradually changing, although it was mid 90's up until a couple of days ago. The cool mornings and evenings made me start thinking about beef stew. Chose a recipe that sounded good as it was made with beer. Went with that.

Here's the ingredients. Imagine 4 cups of beef stock in there too. I forgot to include that in the photo. For the less obvious items they area worcestershire, tomato paste, paprika, S&P, sugar and some parsley. Went with a bottle of Sierra Nevada Porter for the beer.

Got some charcoal going to brown the meat and saute the onions and garlic.

Actually, this is half the meat. Had to do it in two batches.

Added the liquids.

Added the meat back in and simmered for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Starting to thicken up.

After done simmering added in the vegetables.

Added in a little over a cup of boiling water while the veggies simmered

Just about done. Sorry about the steam.

Plated it up along with my bread I cooked a couple of days ago.

This was terrific stew. My wife thought it was the best she'd ever had. I had to agree that it was pretty darned tasty. The beer really added a nice flavor. Will be doing it again. Thanks for looking everyone!

Looks fantastic, Cliff! Always enjoy viewing your posts. You seem to cook with a passion, that involves great meal choices, terrific cook documenting, and absolutely phenomenal photos. Glad to hear it is cooling down some out there. Thanks for sharing. I am making a loaf of no knead bread ala Jim Lahey's method, tomorrow. It has been on the first rise since noon. Planning on at least an 18 hour proof. Would love some of your stew to pair with it.:)

That is one fine looking beef stew Cliff. I make beef stew a lot during the winter from the grill to the indoor weber(crock pot). I have never tried it with beer, although I do cook a lot of things using beer. Next time I make it I'll try using some beer in it.

Thanks Ed! Good luck with that bread. Be careful, it's habit forming!

Makes my Halloween night crock pot stew look pathetic, thanks Cliff! :p

Hey Bob.. That's a "crock". Your cooks are masterpieces and make me try harder. But thanks anyway! :)

Looks delicious, what meat are you using ?

Lynn.... Our butcher just puts out the meat as "Premium Stew Meat". The also have "Regular Stew Meat", which means trim it yourself. My guess is it's probably Chuck.

Cliff that is some outstanding stew you did. I'd be happy to take a plate of that. Great job as always.

Looks hearty, and tasty. Nice cook Cliff. It's almost cooled off enough down here for me to make some corn chowder, going to have to dig up the recipe.
