Another Free Genesis 1000 LX

The existing hose looks good. Just ordered the gas valve. Also have the hose and regulator on their way. Will decide which to go with later.

Is TFE paste the right kind of pipe dope? Also, is it best used alone or together with teflon tape?

Tape and dope will get you in trouble. Use Dope ONLY on less than 1/2" NPT fittings. Above that I prefer tape (proper tape) but dope is just fine as well. But NEVER both.

Ha! I say don't be chicken. Light that bad boy up :D Anyway all kidding aside either soap test or a flame test (don't laugh). It works quite well.
People are afraid of a flame test, but what most may not realize is that the fire does not enter the pipe if you have a leak, there's no oxygen in there :) That's why soap test is a better recommend. Plus, with a soap test you clean at least something a little.

I've got some pipe dope with teflon in the garage. I assume it will work fine. Years ago, I used when replacing some of the gas lines and fittings in the crawl space under my home.

It might work, however I suggest that for less than $4 to pickup a sealant made for gas lines: eg the RectorSeal 5 or similar.

How does one reattach a frame cross member? As you can see in the photo, the rear bottom rail came off. When I went to reattach it, I noticed that the metal is hollow. Looks like there was once some sort of fastener to hold the bolt. Right now, there's noting to attach the bolts to.

Hey Roy, There's an amazing amount of info in the sticky at the top of the forum. I'll be candid, it took me a while before I read through it all, and had I read these sooner, I would have saved myself some time.

this thread has a wealth of info

And this one, scroll to the square tubing insert.

Yeah, I've been digging through those threads. I just don't have the technical knowledge to know which parts would work. No worries, though. I don't really need shelves and the frame seems adequate for now without that cross beam at the bottom. I'll be happy if I can get it to cook nicely and evenly. The flavorizor bars must have been replaced at some point because they're in good shape. They need to be washed but that's about it. When I get the parts on order, I'll test to make sure nothing leaks and then fire it up and see where it's at.
