Another Free Genesis 1000 LX

I like my cast iron grates. I like the flat surface vs round bars.

My E330 has CI.

Silver and 1000 have stamped stainless.

BGE has both CI and round stainless.

Given a choice I'd take CI for the gas grills.

Agree. Have also had all of those. My ideal grate would be a stainless one with the flat profile of the Weber cast iron. Why is there no such thing, or in cast brass that will not rust?

There is a grill company that makes flat top SS grates. I don't remember the name, but they look pretty cool. It might have been Holland, Napolean or Viking or something like that.

Saw this on Amazon today. Fits Silver B and Spirit 300 series. Looks interesting. Anyone tried this?

That's pretty nice - especially if you were also wanting a Blackstone. That size should fit the "classic" x000 & Silver/Gold/Platinum Genesis grills, the SmokeFire and the 300 series Spirit grills.

Not to interrupt the other conversation (I think we can have two at the same time), with regard to flavorizer bars:

rcplanebuyer on ebay offered to sell me this set for $70, which includes shipping.

The amazon option is the Petkoa that several of you fellas recommended for $53, which also includes shipping.

They both claim to be 16 gauge. If rcplanebuyer's offering was 14 gauge, I'd go for it in a heartbeat. Given that they look at the surface to be quite similar, is there any reason rcplanebuyer's offering would be worth the extra $17?

Yeah, you're supporting an American Craftsman not Chinese slave labor. I will support Dave every time.

Mister Parallax,

Just so you are aware, Weber makes stamped stainless grates as a kind of default grate, then they also make cast iron and probably stainless rod grates. This guy RcPlaneBuyer custom makes stuff for Weber grills, and his stuff is over engineered and built to LAST. I have a set of his round stainless steel grates (not stamped) and they weigh more than a set of cast iron grates of the same size. VERY high quality grates. He also makes flavorizer bars, and he does use heavy gauge stainless for them. I and others here have experience with his products, and believe them to be superior, plus he helps people on here with custom cut stuff, and even some fabrication, so he's got a very good reputation and I for one do enjoy patronizing somebody who does things "for the cause". I think he once shrunk some burner tubes for somebody's Genesis Jr. Build. End of the day, I'd rather order from him even if the price was a little higher and know that 1. I'm getting what he said I was getting and 2. it somehow helps him keep doing what he's doing.

Thanks THyde.

I appreciate the perspective on replanebuyer. Great craftsmen are few and far between these days and they deserve to be supported. At this point, I'm kicking around ideas as I try to get my 1000 up and running and determine whether it's something I'll want to own this grill long term. I'm very open but do not yet have real experience so I don't know if I'm going to want to make a substantial investment in flavorizer bars. Assuming I get there, and if I am truly sold on this hobby, I'll probably invest in his product.

Right now, I'm delayed by two things. One is the weather. It's cold out. The second is that I'm recovering from surgery. It was going really well and I was hoping to get out there yesterday and today (at least to the garage) to do some work. But last night I had a very scary setback which came in the form of not being able to pee. Three hours later the heavens opened, together with my bladder, but it happened again this morning at 6:30 and lasted another two hours. Today it may happen again so I'm sure it's best not to engage in any activity which could be remotely stressful to my recovery.

If it's a grill you're going to flip/sell the Dave's stuff isn't worth it as the vast majority of today's buyers don't give a rat's south end about quality. Only cheap. If you're keeping it. Then it's worth the investment. He made a set for me custom for my Wolf and I LOOOOOOVE them

Makes sense. I'm not flipping the grill. Just fixing it up to see if it's a keeper.

Just clean up the grates you have and see if you like the grill. If you do then simply invest in the best with Dave's stuff. I used my Wolf for 6 or 7 years like that until I said "yep I'm gonna have Dave make me a set custom for this beast". Love it BTW. My next thing is I am gonna see if he can make me a set of heat tents
