A little to Close for Comfort

I stand corrected. I never seen a coyote in downtown Chicago but I guess they are there.

I know it sucks to say it but they gotta eat just like us.
If you don't live in the city, but out in the country you just have to deal with it...

Ummm, no! No you don't! They don't call coyotes the great white on land for nothing. They will feast on anything from a grass hopper, to a bull elk! It may be different in Illinois, but here they are shot on sight, day or night. We had several show up about 7/8 years ago. You could hear them barking and howling at night as we would sit around the Bon fire. They lasted about a year or so, now it's quiet at night...

Tim I meant you just have to deal with it, in other words do whatever you have to do.

We have owls around here. Have heard them many times at night. But never seen them.
As for the coyotes, well... the 410 is there if needed.

While birds of prey are a concern, the critter that comes knocking that I hate the most is Mr. Skunk...There's no winning that war

Looks like a great horned owl? ,hate all of them. I was up a tree stand to deer hunt a new spot about 90 minutes before day lite, some kind of owl hit me in the face and if not for the hat I would have lost both eyes. 2 cuts right under each eye and a cut on my nose. 30-40 minutes latter I caught a glimpse of some thing and dropped my head,4 holes in the top of my head,I was wearing a face mask and suspect it seen the white of my eyes and thought I was a squirrel. about 10:30 a hawk flew over and screamed and a owl came out of the top of a tree 40y away,a boy hunting a 1/2 mile away heard me hollering lol nothing seen that day for some reason

14 year old clint saw a skunk run down our stairwell and hide in the woodpile. I grabbed my bb gun & started peeking around. I shot it. I remember the neighbors had their sliding glass door open with a fan, trying to deal with the stink. I had to tear down the wood pile & give it a proper burial in a shoebox. I wasn't very popular for a few days.

Several years ago, the wife of a good friend had to do a research paper on skunks. They had a family of wild skunks that they would feed every night on their back porch. I told him he was full of it, until he showed me several videos. Every night around 23:00 they would turn the back porch light on, open the back door, and place food on the back porch. By 23:30, there were at least 3 skunks eating the food. As time progressed, the element of trust progressed, and my friend and his wife were able to open the door and place more food out as the skunks were eating on the back porch. Never once did they get sprayed.

Wouldn't you be p.o'd if someone invaded your "house" in the middle of the night?;)

Thanks Clint, nice link!
A couple of years ago a snowy had taken up a perch right on the perimeter fence at the airport here, it was there for almost three days. Very unusual, it sat right out in the open, I’ve never heard of such a thing before!
