Well, my amazing cabinetmaker friend and his partner in business redid my entire back wall, removing old funky French doors with nice Anderson windows and one slider then, my wonderful wife poked her head put the new door and said:
“Do you guys have time to build a deck?” After I changed my jockeys, we started measuring for the deck!
The lumber yard was out of 10’ stock so we got 12’ and were considering just trimming, then I realized that was stupid so I have a new 12’x16’ entertainment space!

Have not moved the gasser up there yet but, I’m fairly sure that will find a home up there.
Unsure about the over performer. That might just have to stay in it’s normal home. We shall see.

Are you planning a railing now or are you going to wait until after you fall off and break something to decide that you need one? ;)

Looks really good. Surprised you found any lumber at all. Contractors here are cryin' because there is no lumber to be found around here

Looks great. Time to treat your wife to something very special.
Lew, do you mean something like a divorce? Get rid of my lazy behind! She is really liking it too for it only being finished last night.
Brad, Yes, railing on a couple of spots and another set of steps. So it’s easier for her to get to her flowers. I had the same thought about a Kentucky Derby party getting more Julep inspired and someone going off t
Paid through the nose for the planking but, I got it, and it’s much better than the cheap junk they were sold out of. My builder pal said we were lucky to find everything we did too! It got about $600 more than I had hoped but, I will never need another deck!
On a side note while I was slaving away on the deck my wife did not tell me than a package came from Mark at River City woodworks containing my new vent handles! After I get through cleaning up the work station, I’ll have to post pictures!

If I read your response to her question right that deck is her gift to you. I’m thinking flowers and a meal for her. She is definitely a keeper who wants to keep you and your lazy behind around. :) Enjoy your deck.

Yes, she does truly take good care of me, she gets flowers fairly often, especially now that she is working from home! Not allowed at Pfizer in her area, I used to love sending flowers to her at the office, she would come home and tell me how much teasing the rest of the office would give her.
Lovely dinners I also make sure she gets as often as possible
Thanks Lew, I was kidding about the parting of ways.

Hey,my wife has put up with me since we were 16. I think your relationship and ours have a lot in common

Timothy- what type of wood is that decking?

I hear ya' on the lumber shortage. I was having a difficult time getting PT 2x12-16's and any length of redwood... was lucky enough to snatch the last full bunk a few days ago. Started the decking earlier anticipating a plentiful supply. At one point thought it was going unfinished through the winter but am able to complete this weekend if the snow holds off:

Home Depot, 5/4x6x16 PT $25.79 each
The framing was 2x12 PT 12’ and 16’ each.
The guy that delivered the deck planking was really getting the stock back to the end of the driveway so I could access it without having to go all the way back to the front yard to get each stick! Delivered at 8:10 drove the last screws,of,the day at about 3:30!
