First the jerky.
Had a small piece of round steak that needed cooking.
Hand sliced it, sprinkled on Weber's Steak and Chop seasoning, in the fridge overnight, then apple wood smoked.
Good, but got a bit "cooked" instead of slow dried.
I've been wanting an electric slicer, but no more than I'll use one I didn't want to pay much.
After a lot of research I bought a Chard FSOP-150 from Amazon's warehouse for $40. (I see they have raised the price to $49 on remaining warehouse stock, they're $61 new)
150 watt with a 7.5" blade, gear driven.
Suction cup feet, it's fairly light weight and wants to scoot, but blade end anchored against something solid solved the problem for me.
Listed as used very good, it came new unused in a shop worn box.
Anxious to try it out I put a roughly 3" wide by 8" long piece of bacon I had been whittling on in the freezer to firm up.
Didn't leave it in long enough, so it was still fairly soft, but I proceeded after cutting it in half, or 4" long.
Looks like 6.5 inches is the longest you can cut easily.
It did a fine job until the piece got small, hence the two larger pieces on the right.
The thickness control knob isn't located well, and one needs to catch the slices as they come off, but I was happy with the trial run.
A full slab of belly awaits curing/smoking, and a whole packer eye of round for jerky and maybe some pit beef will put it to a full test soon.
Thought I'd pass on my findings in case someone else is looking for a budget slicer.
If so, please read the reviews etc to decide for yourself.
Thanks for your time.
ps, I'd link it via TVWBB's link, but that seldom works for me.
