3D printing an old part

Still working on the actual button, but came up with a pretty faithful reproduction of an igniter bezel for Genesis 1000-5000 and early Genesis Silver grills. It's not the right color, but that's easy enough to change. I'm going to test it on my grill to make sure it functions and holds up but it fits the control panel the same as the original. It's amazing what these 3D printers can do.

We will see, the button is going to be the next thing and that may be a little tougher to come up with one that looks as good as the original.

My son in law has one as well. How they work is pretty simple overall, but how they're controlled and make intricate designs, is crazy

I have some parts coming that are printed with a filled nylon material. The gent printing these refers to it as 3d printed aluminum. Sounds intriguing.

Do you think dye would be a fairly rich color? I haven't ever played with dyes...

Yes, I do. Youtube it. People dye plastic parts all kinds of colors. I do remember someone posting a grill with red knobs and igniter. I don't remember if they were dyed or painted however.

Yes, you can make them out of any color you want. Colored knobs may also be a possibility, we shall see.

Installed on my grill for product testing. I'm just going to leave it there all summer to see how it holds up to being used repeatedly and being outside. The plastic it's made out of is supposed to be good for outside applications.

Looks great and giving it a good test will show whether it is the answer it appears to be - unless you would rather get some of mine and clean them up!
