How do you like this size grill? Overkill?
I do a few big cookouts each summer and really was thinking of getting one. I've never really seen them for sale used around this area. So I will most likely buy new.
Just wondering what kind of cooks you do on your 26's.
Thank you, Al

I love mine, its big enough so you can smoke on it too, the only problem is the legs are a little flimsy and the one touch cleaning fins are too short, but thats minor, love my big kettle.

Thanks Mike, is it big enough to fit a sleeping bag on? This will be weber number 9..... When I joined this group I had only my Performer ( Thanks Dudes!)

I have had no problems whatsoever with the legs being "flimsy" or the one touch fins... and I use it nearly every day.
i'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Jim,
Isn't yours an older model?
The jiggly legs seems to be a problem on the newest models.
Didn't know about the short sweepers though.

Al I've modified mine considerably. Here are a couple of links for you to look at.

I love my 26. They are very versatile and I can do pretty much anything with it that I can do with a WSM. The advantage to me is the size of the indirect cooking area. I have cooked on three levels. I like being able to add side dishes to the main course and having them all finish about the same time. If you add a rotisserie it's cavernous.

Use the search feature here and you will see plenty of info on the 26 as well.

I wish they offered a 26" Performer Platinum. Since they don't, I plan to drive up to Gary's house and steal his!:D

I like our 26.5" a lot! Even if I only cook for 2 most of the time. Gary hit the nail on the head, the extra room for indirect cooking is great. I recently did some pork ribs on ours and they turned out the best I've ever done! I would really like to have the same setup as Gary's, but his is a one of a kind! Weber should copy his, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if they made it.

I use mine a lot for wings because I like to grill them direct over a fairly low fire and the extra space comes in handy.

Don't shoot, Gary! It was just a compliment.

On a totally unrelated matter, what is your address and what are your work hours? Also, any tips on How could I smuggle that thing across the border?;)

I like mine. But, I prefer to use my 22.75" because it seems much more efficient. If my food will fit on the 22.75, I use it. But, most of the time, I need the extra room that I get with the 26.5.

I have well documented the problem in many threads here. Don't ever drag the thing. The flanges that hold the rear legs are not strong enough. You will bend those flanges. Then your 26er will never sit flat again.

This may be an ignorant question, but is the result of an investment company buying 60% of the company? I bought my dad a 22.75 OTS this Christmas. It seemed to be much lighter in weight than mine. Mine is OTG. So, I wasn't sure if that was the difference or there was cost cutting taking place. I bought my 18" WSM last year and it seems solid.
