I just picked up the above grill at an auction for $40. It is going to take some work to put it back in shape. For sure new flavo bars. I think the cast iron cooking grate might be salvageable. I have to do a bit of cleaning to know for sure. The burners need a bit of cleaning but look OK as well.
But, I have never done one of these newer Genesis grills. I have done several Spirit and Genesis Silver B's and older but none like this one.
It has SS shelves and chrome trim around the hood edges and around the frame under neath. Well, the SS shelves and the chrome trim looks like it needs a lot of cleaning. I am not sure, but the chrome trim around the base might even have surface rust.
How do I go about cleaning the chrome trim and the SS shelves. I don't want to mess up the SS shelves by using something on them that will scratch them. I also, don't want to damage the chrome. (Hopefully it is just grease on the chrome and not rust).
Also, the grey cast aluminum end caps on the shelves have some oxidation and peeling paint. It is looking for a stripping and repaint job there. Is there a good paint out there in medium to dark grey? It probably doesnt need to be high temp since it is on the end caps on the ends of the shelves.
This is a nice grill and with my inexperience with them, I don't want to make stupid mistakes. I did that when I first started with the older Genesis grills.
Oh, and the frame, storage box and doors look to be nearly rust free which is a pleasant surprise. I would have posted some photos, but I dont have access to the grill right now. I will post photos later but this is a photo off the internet that is the same as my grill....but cleaner.
Thanks for any answers to my questions or other advice regarding refurbing these newer grills.
