at what temp. do you pull your smoked butt?

I too use the temp. as a guide. When it hits 190 -195 I use an icepick to see how tender it is. If the pick just glides in with no resistance in several spots i call it done and take it out.

I got tired of paying a lot for a little bit of wood. so ... .

I like both, Bob. If I can figure out a way to slow the wood burning, the propane smoker iwill prove to be much, much simpler to use than the WSM. For example, temperature control is a matter of setting the propane burner at the desired level. Temps. are constant even on the longer smokes...

I got tired of paying a lot for a little bit of wood. so ... .

Tommy, I'm using a masterbuilt dual fuel smoker and my guess is since the wood in the pan sits virtually on top of an open flame it burns faster than if it were sitting on top of, or beneath charcoal briquettes like on a WSM. Mine sits in a cast iron skillet and still burns fast. I'll be...

Is this Acurite thermometer any good?

It has what they call a "custom" setting, which means you can set it to count up to any temperature (up to 450F.) with or without the alarm going off.

I got tired of paying a lot for a little bit of wood. so ... .

Hi, I've been using a propane smoker lately. I'm still learning it, but all in all I like it a lot. But it sure does go through wood fast. Smoking a chicken with propane takes 3-4 times more wood than my Weber Smokey Mountain did and paying $6-$10 for those little bags of wood chunks at the...

Is this Acurite thermometer any good?

Correction and additions; This is an Acurite model # 00277. It was $19.25 with free shipping on eBay. Amazon has it for $17.27 but shipping is $6.72. No thanks on this one, Amazon. I forgot to mention it has both Celsius and Farenheight settings and registers temps. from 14F - 450F and 10C -...

Is this Acurite thermometer any good?

The thermometer came in today and since there are no reviews on it here I thought I might as well provide one. I got it on ebay. $17 and change, free shipping. I used it tonight and it did fine. It's nothing too fancy which is okay with me. I wanted something to register the internal temp. of...

Is this Acurite thermometer any good?

Hi, Info here is nonexistent on this thermometer. Or at least I couldn't find it. Have any of you folks used the Acurate thermometer model # 00277? If you have, what did you think of it? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00EOLZ6R8/tvwb-20 Thanks

Masterbuilt Pro Dual Fuel temp. prob. solved ... but creates a new problem.

I figured out how to get a low temp. on the*this Masterbuilt Pro Dual Fuel. Instead of using the lowest setting, I ran the knob past the high setting almost all the way off and got a 210 deg. reading and it was steady for over an hour. But here's the new problem. The wood chunks won't smoke at...

Looking at propane smokers ... .

Hi Brian, I just watched this video in which the guy smokes a 20lb turkey in a Masterbuilt Pro Dual Fuel smoker, the one sold at Home Depot. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeO93Clsxmg And there are a ton of pictures of it here...

Looking at propane smokers ... .

I know, I know, I'm going to Hades to be slow smoked for eternity but l've been looking at propane smokers online today and have narrowed it down to two which are very similar. The only differences I can see is the one from Home Depot says it is "dual fuel," good for propane and charcoal. It's...

    propane smoker?

Well, I bought it last night for $50 and planned to do a brisket tomorrow. But I sold it this afternoon for $150. My neighbor had it posted on the bulletin board of our neighborhood grocery store for $75. The buyer called the neighbor and the gave the guy my number. He came over, looked, wanted...

    propane smoker?

When I tasted ribs, chickem etc. cooked in this smoker I have to say there was no discernible taste difference from what I smoke in my WSM. Please don't ban me for saying that. :) How about you other vertical propane smoker users. Do you taste a difference?

    propane smoker?

Hi smokers, We have a neighbor moving and he said he will sell me his propane smoker and two propane tanks for $50. I have some info on it. It's a Smoke Hollow model # 38202G and retails at around $225 and he's kept it nice. Does anyone here have experience with this model or any other Smoke...

Slow and Sear accessory for Weber kettle

Sorry, I misinterpreted. The idea is the same. The OP should have disclosed that the "guys" who invented the gizmo play MAJOR roles in running that forum. He should have identified them by name and should have spelled out their connection to that forum at the beginning of the post. I

Slow and Sear accessory for Weber kettle

The OP is too slick for me. By saying he is just "a member" over at that other forum, but failing to mention that he is also the administrator and a moderator there too, is more than "disengenuous." It's like telling someone you live in work in Washington, D.C. without mentioning you live in...
