UPDATED with pics!!!!Who else has pellet smoker that willing to admit it?

My friends I got a great deal on this smoker. It's a char griller pellet smoker. I won't got into details how I got it but it only cost me $150. They retail for $500 so it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

Here's a few pics....hopefully I won't get kicked off the forum. I promise I won't post any cooks of it here.

Yesterday I had a chance to season it. Had this for about 3 weeks or so.

All in favor of removing Tony from the forum say I...

Just kidding! I know a lot of people having pellets and eggs. I look forward to getting your thoughts of the pros and cons from WSM. I myself have never cooked on a pellet smoker.

My daughter has a Traeger pellet grill, works really well, almost like an oven. Yes I did take her out of the Will

This seems strangely familar.......Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Oh yeah, now I remember

I have a MAK 2 Star General that I purchased in 2011. The two star is pretty much set it and forget it grill/oven. The MAK is very easy to use and is probably in the top three when it comes to quality. If you cook with low heat, 180/225, you'll produce quite a bit of smoke, however, higher heat means less smoke. I like to cook at about 275 which gives me a light smoke taste. Regulating the temperature in a Pellet Grill is most difficult unless you have a quality grill. Temperature swings of 25 to 50 degrees is not unusual and really difficult to manage. I do use my MAK, however somewhat sparingly. Have fun with your new toy Tony and keep us informed of your progress.

I will have to say that it looks as though Chargriller has stepped up the quality of their products since the last one I bought several years ago. Great deal Tony

I use to have a Traeger Texas, had it for 2 years used it maybe 7 times and finally got rid of it, I guess I'm just spoiled to the flavor of my WSM or an offset.

I will post a follow up on this thread.

I compared to traeger and this grill comparable. Cast iron grates. Heavy gauge metal. I'm no expert but I like what I see.

lol.............

Tony, Barb and I were in Costco yesterday and they had a traeger demo going on so I stopped to take a look. A salesman pounced on me and started telling me all the features it had. After a little while he asked if I had a grill already. I said "I have eight Weber grills and smokers in my backyard" there was at least 15 seconds of silence as he just stared at me. Then he said "really" I said "yes" another few seconds of silence and he said "Guess you don't need one of these" I replayed "nope" and walked away. The look on his face was priceless.

Funniest story I heard all week :smilekettle:

I dont have a pellet smoker, but every once in awhile I like adding some pellets to my cooks for a change of pace.

My neighbors bring over goodies from their Trager every now and then..... I wouldn't get one, but I've enjoyed everything that's come off of it. Now when we get together & our cooks are side by side :)))) Mine has better crust & flavor :))) I *almost* felt bad setting it out next to his but you know, I'm a nice guy (humble too) and don't want to show up a host :)

Hello everyone.....

This was my first cook on the pellet smoker. I have a char griller we got from Lowes. Any advice on how to improve and tips on how to use this kind of smoker is greatly appreciated.

Used Apple pellets

Ribs were trimmed and removed excess fat. Seasoned with bad byrons rub. Here they are at the start of the cook.

This was about 2 hours in and had the color I liked.

For the wrap I used honey brown sugar and butter with a splash of Apple juice.

Here they are after being in the wrap for 1 hour or so. The ribs were in the smoker for another 30 minutes before I sauced them. Total cook time was about 4 hour or so. At a temp of 250

We also had BBQ beans out of the can and Mac and cheese

We got a slight smoke ring.

Here's your plate.
